Good day!

What is the meaning of your first name?

Mine derives from Kore, another name of the Greek goddess Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. Kore means "Maiden". Apparently, first modern usage of the name popped up in the book 'The Last of the Mohicans' by James Fenimore Cooper in 1826, for the main female character.

According to the book "The Oxford Mini-dictionary of First names", that is owned by my mother, because it was a euphimistic name of Persephone, it would not be a well-omened name to take. Mmmm. Well then... wish me luck everyone

Kore Kory Cory!

Mine's a bit odd. As a Chinese heritage (no, not China), my parents probably spent years thinking up names for all of us. Mine uses the Chinese characters for "flow", "gold" and "language". Eloquence and wealth. *shrug*

Supposedly, Pamela means "honey"

This name was invented in the late 16th century by the poet Sir Philip Sidney for use in his poem 'Arcadia'. He possibly intended it to mean "all sweetness" from Greek παν  (pan)  "all" and μελι  (meli)  "honey". It was later employed by author Samuel Richardson for the heroine in his novel 'Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded' (1740), after which time it became used as a given name. It did not become popular until the 20th century.

Mine means "noble". I've never used the full name, just the last two syllables.
I can guess what it is now! :D
:lol3: My parents actually only wanted the nickname, not "Patricia", but the Catholic church wouldn't baptize me as "Tricia". I believe they're a lot more liberal about that kind of thing nowadays.

Mine would mean Meadow Beautiful.

I did a lot of looking at the meaning of names when I picked my kids names out.  I had wanted to name DD after my Grandma; Hattie.  My Grandma's name is actually Harriet; but she always went by Hattie.  (Actually the story goes that my Great-Grandma didn't like the name Harriet so she called her Agnes.  After my Grandma started school as a little girl she learned her name was really Harriet and started going by that or Hattie.  I've always been close to my Gram so I liked the idea of naming her Hattie.  Plus I was due on my Grandma's birthday!  Well; Harriet means "headstrong."  Yeah; that's my Gram.  And I was afraid to have such a heastrong kid!
Ironically; DD was born a few weeks early on my Grandpa's birthday.  And I can't decide if she is still headstrong or if she's just a normal toddler/preschooler.

DS got my Grandpa's name as his middle name.  My Mom and I always joke that if my Gram was in her right mind she'd really give my Grandpa heck for DD being born on HIS birthday instead of HERS!  And DS got his name too....

My first name means either melody or peace depending on where you look and the origin. The name Rena is Hebrew meaning melody, but apparently in America it comes from Irene, which means peace. At least that is what I get from a quick google search.

Juli is from Hungarian origin and means "youthful" or "young" - it's supposed to be pronounced "You-lee", but most people just call me "Julie".

@MoochNNoodles I love the name Hattie - that was one of my top choices when I was naming Alaina.

I have a Greek name.

But I do not have an ounce of Greek in me.

I'm about as German/Irish as you can get.

However I WAS born in OLYMPIA.... washington

My name is the Greek name of the mother of Perseus: Danae

She was a princess of Argos, and it was foretold that her son would someday kill the king.  In order to prevent such an occurrence, her father, the king, locked her up (some say a tower, some say a dungeon).  When he discovered that his security measures had failed (hello... ZEUS), he tossed the mother and child into the sea (this is the opening scene of the older Clash of the Titans movie).

Some say it was Hera herself who took pity on the mother and child, and moved them to drift to a safe haven.

According to my dad, I was named after the sister of his high school best friend.  His best friend died in Vietnam.  If I had been a boy, I would have been named after his friend.  Still, my mom didn't like the name because it is pronounced like a boy's name (Danny), and she kept trying to say that my name was really Danielle.  Sorry mom, that's not what it says on my birth certificate.  lol

So that's how a German/Irish girl, born in Olympia, ended up with a Greek name.

The most common response I have found is that Suzanne is Hebrew in origin and means lily...but I was named after an Austrian aunt.

What a nice question!

My humble apportation at the question...:D My name is Rigel
------
Rigel, also known by its Bayer designation Beta Orionis (β Ori, β Orionis), is the brightest star in the constellation Orion and the seventh brightest star in the night sky, with visual magnitude 0.12. The star as seen from Earth is actually a triple star system, with the primary star (Rigel A) a blue-white supergiant of absolute magnitude −7.84 and around 130,000 times[12][4] as luminous as the Sun. An Alpha Cygni variable, it pulsates periodically. Visible in small telescopes, Rigel B is itself a spectroscopic binary system, consisting of two main sequence blue-white stars of spectral type B9.

Although Rigel has the Bayer designation "beta", it is almost always brighter than Alpha Orionis (Betelgeuse). Since 1943, the spectrum of this star has served as one of the stable anchor points by which other stars are classified.
