Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Vs. Respiratory Relief

After a day of reading cat litter reviews, I'm torn.  I'm tried the Precious Cat Ultra before and found it to be too dusty but maybe I just got a bad bag.  The Respiratory Relief is around $14 for a 20lb bag.  I imagine that would fill 1.5 large litter boxes but I could be wrong.  The Precious Cat Ultra is around $17 for a 40lb bag.  I spend a fortune on litter as it is so the R&R price isn't too scary but I don't want to waste money if the Ultra is just as good for feline/human asthma.  I have several litter boxes and I want to do a 2 month trial so I'll be purchasing many bags. Any opinions?

I have been using the Ultra regularly. I don't find it very dusty. My kitten practically does jumping jacks in the box, and the sides barely get dusty. It doesn't track much either - we have some of it around the box, but that is because he leaps into and out of it and scatters it as a result.

i would recommend Nature's Miracle instead. 

Nature's Miracle Intense Defense Clay Litter.

I've used the Ultra, and Nature's Miracle.

They have the same consistency/texture of litter

they are both great with odor control

same amount of dust for both (very minimal)

tracking was more with Ultra, and the clumps were not good. Always had pieces left behind, and urine always hit the bottom of the pan, even after maintaining 4-5 inches in the box at all times.

my bf never comments or cares about litter, but even he was telling me to switch back to nature's miracle when this batch of ultra was done. lol

the clumps with nature's miracle are SUPER tight, well formed, and does not break apart. Urine NEVER hit the pan, even times when i didn't maintain a good amount of litter in the box.

Since dust is such an issue, have you considered crystals/silica litter?

Isn't the Nature's Miracle scented?  I think I tried a corn-based litter by them in the past and it was scented despite not noting this on the package.  

The tracking WAS a concern as well with the Dr. Elsey's.  I forgot that my "breaking point" with it's trial was finding it all over my asthmatic(he has other health concerns so I'm EXTRA careful and don't want him ingesting clay) cat's paws.  I rarely see World's Best on his paws but I will see the dust on his head/the other cats' heads and you can always tell when my black cat has been in a box as well as my cat with "white boots" which will be stained that yellowish corn color.  

I've used the crystal litters in the past and I really liked them but I've heard to avoid products with silica for the sake of their delicate respiratory tracts.  I have no idea how it affected his asthma as I was using other litters alongside it.  I've found varying answers online.

My boyfriend doesn't share my special interest in cat litter either lol but he grows weary of spending so much money on World's Best every month.

Nature's Miracle Intense Defense, the clay litter, is not scented. 

My boyfriend helps me to clean out the boxes sometimes. He's complained about Dr. Elsey's in particular.

I've tried WBCL in the past and I've hated it. I found that it tracked just as much as the clay litters i've used before it, and there was also a lot of dust, the dust was just now brown colored like soot instead of grey, white like you get with clay litters. my cats also hated it. it was the only time that one of my cats, my black girl kitty, actually pooped and peed outside of the box. Not to mention that it did nothing for the Odor, and i've used both the unscented and lavender scented one. My kitties' waste would mix with the WBCL and create this awful smell, and not even my cats could tolerate. i think that could also be the reason for going outside of the box for my Jet....Once i switched back to a clay based litter, both my cats were good with the box again. And i could BREATHE in my own home again.

I can't wait to finish this batch of Dr. Elsey's Ultra so i can get a bag of the Nature's Miracle again. That seemed to be the best litter for me and my kitties. With this particular brand (nature's miracle), my girl didn't come out of the litter box a different colored cat LOLLL. Clumping is great (strong and QUICK), odor control is amazing, tracking and dust very minimal

Well.. I went with the Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra.  It was too late to order online so I made a snap decision to purchase a few bags at PetSmart for $15.99.  The dust in the two bags I've opened was very low so I was pleased with that.  The tracking appears to be less than the WBCL.  The smell(of the litter itself) is certainly better.  However, I have had to wash my disabled cat's paw off on two occasions now and it wasn't easy; like removing cement.  They don't seem to be covering as well with the Dr. Elsey's and they're currently only defecating in the three big Dr. Elsey boxes so scooping twice a day is not enough.  I have two Breeze boxes, which they only urinate in, and one huge box that now contains a pelleted wheat grass litter, which they also refuse to defecate in.. so far.  I guess it's time to add another box.  I'm not sure if I'll be buying the Dr. Elsey's again.  It's been difficult to scoop(chisel?) compared to the WBCL and I worry about the pieces being ingested, especially the ones getting stuck to his paws.  I suppose that might be a problem with any clay litter but maybe we'll try the Nature's Miracle next.  Thanks for the suggestion!
