Our cat smokey is 17.5 and he lost the ability to walk 2 weeks ago. Took him to the vet and they said it was hard to tell what could be the issue. Vet treated his very infected paw too. Smokey was feeling OK to eat etc. But now his legs are moving less and hi cannot pee unless we help him. No stool either. What could be going on...any help would be appreciated. I'm so worried

This is very sad, but I think your kitty is trying to tell you something.  I know it's not what you want to hear, but I would encourage another vet visit and a discussion about end of life care for your kitty. :(

I agree with Stephanie. I think it's time to think about what is best for your baby. Only you can decide that, you know your cat best, but in my experience with my elderly pets, often times, losing the ability to get up and walk is the first sign that it's time to think about letting them go.

I very much hope that my guess is wrong and like I said, this is a decision that only you can make. I don't know your kitty or you, but you do. You are the person best equipped to decide what is best here.

It hurts so bad when our babies are suffering and there isn't a thing we can do to help. Only you can decide what kind of quality of life your little one is having right now, could the infection have something to do with it? Please talk to your vet and see if there is a possibility of him recovering or if he is experiencing the end of his time on this earth. I pray he can go peacefully in his sleep at home with the ones he loves, but I know you don't want him to suffer if he seems to be in pain. I believe he can tell you if you look deep into his eyes. Just love him now and tell him what his love means to you. He needs you now, and bless you for caring for him as you are. I'm so sorry you are going through this, but try to focus on the 171/2 years of love and devotion you shared. I'll pray for you both and keep you in my thoughts.
