This is a random post but I wanted to share.  I got a violin last week after ten years of wanting to learn how to play lol.  i haven't been involved with music since the ninth grade and that was choir.  I am starting from scratch as far as the violin and reading music.

I had my first lesson last Monday and I love my teacher, she's crazy like I am so it works lol.  I'll be going every week for lessons, I'm so happy! I'm a major introvert so I tried hard to not go to the first lesson but my husband got me there and I'm glad he did because I wouldn't be learning something new.

Oh, congratulations on the new instrument!
I hope the lessons continue to go well.

(I used to play violin when I was a kid, but soon found that I had no musical talent whatsoever.

bless! awesome, good on you sugarsandz!  I always say this is the one instrument I would LOVE to learn! (I only know the clarinet, I know it well, we were great pals for many years)

One lesson at a time, and practice, practice, PRACTICE!!  you will have to record and then play for us here, once you are comfortable!!  YAY for you, love the violin!!
most beautiful instrument ever, so many sounds, so many different ways to play it..

Thanks guys! I was encouraged when my instructor told me that many of her students are adults.  Everyone always says you need to start playing as a kid, but that's so not the case!  I'm 29 and am not having trouble picking up new things.  I also just started college which has given me confidence in my ability to learn new things and gave me the extra push to get a violin.  it's a big investment in the instrument itself and the lessons so I will try my hardest!

This sounds so exciting. I have a violin and banjo that are family heirlooms. I look at both of them and wish I could play. Don't give up. You can do it.

I regret not playing an instrument as a child, how awesome would I be by now? LOL!

I really need to do some weight lifting, my upper arm strength is horrible! After a few minutes of holding the violin properly, my arm feels like it's going to fall off!

Congratulations on the new violin!

I took violin as a kid and didn't like it that much, but got heavily into classical in my later years and now love the violin. Someone gave me a violin that needed a bit of work. I found someone to fix it and now I just have to get playing again. Like yourself, I am learning all over again.

Sounds like you are off to a great start with a good teacher. Have fun and let us know how it goes. It would be nice to hear your playing when you are feeling comfortable enough to share.

Good for you! I hope your lessons go well. I have a friend that just started taking violin lessons last year also. :)
