Hi
I'm new here! I'm looking for some advice...
My 6 month old rescue had a seizure this morning. I took him to the emergency vet right away. He was lethargic post seizure but came around when we got outside.

His exam at the vet was normal but I opted for blood work anyways. The test showed elevated neutrophils which is likely a result of his upper respiratory infection. I have 1 other cats that have the feline respiratory herpes virus as they were adopted from the shelter.
The vet asked about diet and I have been transitioning Thompson to a raw diet. She isn't a fan of raw so wasn't too positive about that.
It is possible that Thompson was running around and hit his head on the table, but the vet also said he could have toxoplasmosis.
I am super worried about him. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?
His feline HIV and leukaemia was also negative.
Thanks
Tammy

Did she mention Toxoplasmosis AFTER you said you were transitioning to a raw diet.  How long have you been transitioning him, because it it were Toxoplasmosis, my understanding is that it would take awhile for that to show any effects, and seizures are not really that common with it, although they DO occur, BUT respiratory can be also, and you indicated he has a URI?  Did he have a fever, or lack of appetite or lethargic.  Those are usually the beginning signs though (same as with the URI)    And WHAT kind of raw are you feeding...from the grocery store or commercially prepared or what.  If from a grocery store do you freeze it first for a few days before serving it? ( BTW, MOST Vets aren't a fan of raw
.  My Vet wasn't until I explained how I make sure it's completely nutritionally balanced AND how good  they look when she sees them
.  Last time we were in for their annual check-up, she couldn't keep her hands off them 'cause they were so soft
,  I'm going to make a convert of her yet.  )  But I digress...

What makes you think maybe he hit his head on the table?  Is this something he has done before, or come close to doing?  What did the Vet DO for him?  If she suspects Toxo, did she prescribe an antibiotic?  (that's the fix for it...clindamycin).  But if he took a blow to the head, what did she say you should do?  Does he appear to be ok now?

Of course you're worried about him!  Who wouldn't be
Hopefully he'll be just fine and he'll never have another one
Are you to follow up with your regular Vet?

Hi thank you
It was shift change at the emergency vet. The first vet didn't mention toxoplasmosis but the second one did. It is prevalent in our area but didn't say specific to a raw diet.

I thought he may have hit his head as I've seen him run full force at the kitchen table and launch himself onto the chairs underneath. There is very low clearance there.

I am feeding a locally prepared raw diet. It is cut meat, bone and organ. It is produced within 30 minutes where I live.

I looked at the link you provided in the raw forum, and it said 80% meat and 20% organ...do you have some other information about the calcium source that the website doesn't have?

Could you get some other pictures of the packages for us? In your other thread the pictures are giving us different information.
