I had a 15 year old cat named Shadow who had a seizure and passed away a week ago, her sister gracie has been losing weight< I brought her to the vet we had a full check up with blood test and even sent them out.  NO results to indicate what is wrong she has lost a pound AND IS now only 7 pounds.

Then her sister died, she cried the first coulple days, we gave her lots of attention and now she won't eat much, I;m getting very worried that it is her time as well, I want to do what is best for her

Any advice the vet can't pin point why she is losing weight.\

Hi Linda:

I am sorry to read of your loss and the continued distress with your surviving babies.

Has your vet considered Diabetes in some form?

My dear Toogie came down with Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes.  He did not particularly lose weight....his total weight stayed generally the same.  But, he accumulated excess fluids, also known as 'iscides'--I am sorry, I cannot spell it right to get info to come up in a Google Search.

Anyway, I had to take Toogie in to the vet every so often to have the fluid drained off his abdomen.  When this got to be almost every week and a little less, I had to love him enough to let him go.  He was not comfortable, but did not complain.  Toogie was 18 years old.

I don't mean to be a downer; just asking if the Diabetes question has been asked.

Is Gracie drinking water? Using the toilet normally?  Have you tried other kinds of food from her normal diet to entice her to eat?

I replied to your other thread without seeing this one - everything makes a lot more sense to me now.

@betsygee  is right about the trying out different foods. She's going to lose more weight, and drastically, if she doesn't eat any food - it's called fatty liver disease. It can worsen the situation very quickly. Have you tried putting bits of her favorite treats on top of her food, or adding a sprinkling of grated cheese or a little tuna juice on top? Maybe offer a highly appealing food, like cooked chicken bits?

If nothing works, then I suggest try syringe feeding (it's stressful, but it's better than nothing). Your vet might also prescribe meds and/or a high calorie paste paste to help kick start her appetite (though those sometimes do not work). The last resort would be a feeding tube.

I also had the same question as betsygee - please make sure she is staying hydrated!

I have a concern about Gracie. What does it mean her eyes are fully dilated. Is something going on. She still eats. Very little to nothing
