My cat stopped eating or interacting with anyone including our other cat although they got along extremely well. She just sits in the same isolated spot and only drinks water. She lost a lot of weight and looks very weak. We took her to a vet and blood tests revealed that everything is normal. We are currently force feeding her but its been almost 10 days and nothing is changing . What should i do? I am really desperate since vets aren't helping so any advice would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear this, what a worry!

There has to be some reason for this. I would suggest taking the cat back to the vet for further tests? Perhaps an xray, check her teeth, make sure her temp is ok (a high temp will take away appetite & make them feel dreadful), and would point towards an infection. A stuffy nose may lose interest in food too.  What bloods did they do? Perhaps there may be a more thorough test they could do. If your vet seems hesitant, please try another.

For me, losing so much weight means it's becoming an emergency. Not eating really doesn't bode well in cats and they go downhill fast.

You've probably already tried it, but will mention it just in case. Warming wet food can make it smell stronger & more appealing. Try some human food, tuna (not in brine) chicken, thin ham slices. Anything that may kick-start an appetite. Boiling chicken & giving all the water with tiny chuncks of chicken may help some as the water contains some of the fat in the water if she's drinking ok. It all foams up when you start, then melts back in.

I hope you find some answers soon, I will keep everything crossed for you and your girl.

No stuffy nose and if there was an infection it wouldve shown through the white blood cells in the blood work. Temperature was regular too. They check the white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets and whether or not she has anaemia... it was a CTC blood test.

The vet didnt try any other tests since these were normal but i'll definitely ask for more, we tried several types of dry, wet and human food. Ill try the chicken soup idea though, thank you for the advice.

It's really frustrating since I have no idea what's wrong and she doesn't seem at all interested in food... or even grooming herself.

I would deffo ask for an xray as everything else seems ok. Just had another thought, can you get some kitten or adult cat milk? Wondering if will help to get some more nutrients down her.

I guess the lack of interest in food and grooming is down to feeling awful. And the longer the no eating goes on, the less interest she'll have in other things because she's so weak. Good luck with everything and I am rooting for ya.

I would suggest at this point your vet (or  another one) has to go into overdrive if they and you are going to save your cat's life.  This has gone on too long to be anything other than a medical reason or reasons.  Just by virtue of the lack of appetite and lack of nutrition one has to suspect hepatic lipidosis as a secondary cause in addition to the original and as yet unknown primary medical cause.  A complete blood panel, imaging including possibly an echo, and I don't know what else.

We syringe feed her every couple of hours to make sure this wont happen, and she poops regularly . But yes ill ask for more tests, the problem is that , even though this is supposedly the best veterinary clinic around, the vets are less than adequate :(

Thanks for the help

I guess you just have to be pushy. It's all we can do when faced with vets who are not so great if a second opinion is not an option.  insist they do more to help. Any friends that can recommend anyone?

I would ask for a specific FpL test (pancreatitis), they have to send it off to Texas A&M University.  I would also ask for x-rays.  Are there any specialists in your area?

I live in Saudi Arabia so i don't have any of these options. The cat started meowing for food and eating , very little amounts yes, but at least she started eating again. We still syringe feed her to make sure she gets a decent amount but there is definitely a slight improvement, she now weighs 3 kg (6.5 pounds) and hopefully will be back to her original weight soon!

Thank you all for the help and the suggestions .

Yes, i watched several videos, i've been doing it for the past 10 days. Today she ate half a can of wet food and a nice piece of chicken, i don't think ill need to syringe feed her today. She is definitely getting better :)
