Lots of excitement outside my building right now!

I heard several sirens, followed by a very loud bang. I looked out my window and there is an SUV across the centre meridian kind of facing North, and a cop car on the road facing North. The cop car's hood is pushed up so that the part by the window is visibly sticking up at least 1/2 way up the front window. The SUV looks like it has some major damage to the front end passenger side.

The sirens continued and 2 cop cars coming down River (the street in the lower right corner) slowed to the intersection. One remained, and the other took off down Donald Street (the big roadway shown) with sirens blaring.

I'm wondering if it was a high speed chase seeing that there were so many cars in the area with sirens and lights on.

Another cop car showed up shortly after the help direct traffic, and another arrived I guess to monitor the situation and pick up the officers involved. I don't see or hear any ambulances, so I don't think anyone was seriously hurt.

The tow trucks just came to clear the cars away.

Yikes!  Glad no one else was hurt.  I'm sure it's a hard decision to come to sometimes for officers to "bump" cars.

I don't think it was a "bump". The impact was enough that it was a really loud bang.

I suspect the police car was traveling North and the SUV travelling west when they met in the intersection. The car likely didn't know where the sirens were coming from and went into the intersection in the path of the police car.

If I'm right, the SUV was broadsided on the driver's side and thrown front passenger into the metal guard rail and bounced off landing at an angle on the meridian.

I didn't see an ambulance, so likely no serious injuries, but if someone doesn't have whiplash from that impact, I would be very surprised.

Oh no, so they DID hit someone totally random! Ugh, that stinks for everyone involved.
