Hi all. my husband and I just picked up our newest additions to our household. We adopted 3  18 months old black kitties. They are all brothers and we were told that they were born in the same sac. Does this mean they are identical triplets?? Just wondering if anyone knows..

Thanks for any and all information

I have no idea sorry. But I just wanted to say if they are how will you tell the difference between them ? LOL :lol3: :lol3:

It's brilliant that you are giving three brothers a home so they don't need to be split up. :rbheart:

Make sure you post pictures soon as you can ;)

Ok so I've just been looking on the Internet for answers. I'm not 100% on this as there is not a lot of information on it. But generally it seems to be that if they are born sharing a sack they are identical triplets ;)

Hi all,

I did pose this question on dr. lyons page but haven't seen a response yet.... but i think Gemsgem may have solved it!!!! It makes sense that if the three are in the same sac, like human twins or triplets , then they too would be identical... the only way we can tell them apart right now, is one is only 6 lbs and the other two are 8,, but looks wise, they all have a little white triangle of fur on thier neck, under their face... so they are hiding right now, and hard to get out but its baby steps right now.... but they are just gorgeous and so so sweet.... we will have to use different colored collars to keep them from being mixed up... oh this is gonna be fun!!!!

Thanks for all informaton and i will post pictures if they ever come out from under the laundry tub... all together!!!!

Hi gemsgem....i appreciate you looking into any information regarding triplets. I guess its really not that important, and makes no difference as we love them to bits.. i guess its just history that i wanted to know. i am in contact with their foster dad, a very sweet , nice guy who takes all kinds of kitties in. I have sent him an e mail as he may have been there when they were delivered...btw.. i love you're emoticons....you seem to be getting such a kick out of this... it makes me laugh.

We were just downstairs and got two to come out and get petted and scratched.. the butt area is their favorite... ok...i do anything for my cats... as we all do... but in less than 24 hours we have had some good progress... the littlest one has convinced one of his bigger brothers to come out and get a few kitty treats and scratches.... i''ll keep you posted, but much thanks for taking interest in this and sending lovely emails with the cutest emoticons... i think you may have as much fun as we will....give Gemsgem a big kitty kiss for me!!!!!

Well, I think i finally got my answer regarding my boys... i talked to their foster dad and he said that he had rescued their mom, and she delivered them, all attached to the same placenta in the same sac.... It makes sense to me, but then again.... I ain't the brightest bulb in the bunch....lol... it would be interesting to find out more on identical twins or triplets and see what information if any is out there...next project!!!

xo and thanks to you all... pictures soon!!!!!!!!

Hi tinagirl, thank you for the compliments :D It's great to meet other people on here that love their cats as much I do. Especially people like you who take on rescue cats that otherwise might get over looked for more flasher coloured cats. And three at the same time wow :worship:

Yes I do like to use emoticons - just a tiny little bit lol :lol3:

Genetics really interest me, especially unusual things like identical triplets. I think I will do a bit more Internet searching for some answers to this. :hi:
Otherwise it's just going to bug the hell out of me until I know the answer lol :lol3:

Hi again Gemsgem...

I love the emoticons,, but i find that when i click on them, then i can't close that site. Then i have to go back etc etc.. so i don't use them but i love seeing yours. It is nice to see other people who do love and care for our companion animals as much as we do.  Your emoticons make us laugh as they do suit the situation!!! I don't mind the bowing down either...lol... that one is hilarious!!!  I already see in the tiniest of the three (6lbs) that he has allot of kitten in him, i think he  is gonna be a hell raiser.. but thats the fun of it. His older/ bigger brothers (8lbs) are allot shyer and so are taking their cues from the little guy.

Its nice to see you are so interested in genetics, and i think you are the one that found out for sure and confirmed the foster parents claims. One we can get a better look at these guys, then it will be easier to see just how identical they are, there are some white spot under chin and on tummy.... but i will keep you all posted, and anything i can help out with... just ask...

kindest e gards

The emoticons gemsgem is using are at the top of the Reply pane. They are all completely on-site, so they will not interfere with your reply.  The button for them is the smiley face. There are some general ones that stay all the time, like the
, which denotes a cat that has Crossed the Rainbow Bridge. There are some that are for the season, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and such.

.  And there are some that are just fun.

Sorry about hijacking the thread.

Right so I've been doing a bit of research on identical triplets :hi:

From what I can understand  the general consensus seems to be that if they shared the same sack and placenta then they are identical triplets. :woohoo:  :high5:

The only way to know for certain would be DNA testing as identical twins/triplets have matching DNA. But I think that's taking it a bit to far, more than likely they are identical and well that's good enough for me ;)

Also it doesn't matter if their coat colour patterns are not exactly the same. You mentioned some white markings on your three :blackcat: :kitty2: :blackcat: These white patches don't need to be identical on each of the cats for them to be identical. Apparently when cats have been cloned ( cloned cats are the same thing as identical twins/triplets because they share them same DNA ) These cloned cats have had slight differences in coat pattern to the cat they were cloned from - Weird right ?? :catguy:

Hope this helps :banana1:

thanks for the reply catspaw66.. i never mind anyone helping out. btw i love the pictures of all you're kitties... they have a nice sunroom to play in..

When i click on the emoticons, only one comes up that i have clicked on, and when i try to click on more, or close the page,,, nothing happens. So i have to go back a page and then see the emoticon that i first clicked on. its my computer not the emoticons... but its too bad. I have tried pretty much everything, but my computer has been acting up.. so i guess i will do it the harder way... but thanks for the info and thanks for showing off your kitties... what a nice group of people to meet!

Hi ya gemsgem..

Its so nice of you to do some research for me..... it is a crazy thing isn't it?  its amazing when you finally find out something that you weren't sure if you knew or not... at least with me.. i had to second guess whether that cats could be identical triplets..but i like what you found out.

Yes, its good enough for me too that the findings say that the would be identical... i don't need the dna ... but its nice to know that its available out there...its the same with cloned cats too? They can have slight differences but share the same dna... wow.. who would've thought? I really want to get pictures of these guys up on site, but it will be a while i am sure.... can't wait though.

They are finally getting used to us a bit... it takes a bit but they do come out from hiding..and then like the brushies and the bum spanking (gently) and roll around etc... then when they have had enough... they go back to wherever they were... but there is definate signs of them coming round. I can't see where they have used the litter yet... i would have thought by now...its been 24 hours that they would have done something, but they really haven't touched their wet food, ate some dry food and water.... i have checked around but no pee .... i emailed the foster dad and he said that i wasn't unusual that they are'nt using the litter yet..... but i don't want to introduce them to the rest of the house until i know for sure they are using the litter... i checked to see what litter he uses and seems that mine is fine with him... sooooo its a wait and "pee" game....no pun intended....lol......

thanks for checking all the stuff out for me and i will be in touch and by all means, e mail whenever you want or feel like it..... such nice people i have gotten to meet.....

xo for now

I believe that they must come from the same zygote, right? That would mean that they shared the same sack and placenta, too.

@tinagirl   here are some tutorials that will make your experience here more full.    www.thecatsite.com/a/faq  This is actually the FAQ at the bottom of the page, but sometimes it is hard to find. The tutorials are about the middle of the linked page. Did you look at my album on my Profile page?

hi again catspaw66 !!

I hadn't really looked at your page, just briefly, but i see that you have allot  of photos, so i want to take some time to get a good look at all those beauties!! i have to say, from what i saw, they are very lucky and very happy kitties. I will take you up on the advice to check out the cat website.. but will do so later as i am going back to the laundry room to check on the boys... its gradual but have got them to come out and get bum pats ( they love it) and scratchies and love and hugs.... i think i am an addict!!!!  But the sooner they get used to us, and thier litter  then we can bring them upstairs... just been over 24 hours and i guess i am rushing it... but i love them so much!!!!!

email anytime, always welcome!

thanks for now

PM is the safest way to get personally in touch with other members.  Have you posted any pictures of the triplets yet?

Hi there catpaw66,,,,

We don't have pictures of these guys yet.. they are still very nervous.. We had them in the laundry room for the first day and overnight..with all the toys, beds, food, litter etc... but now have opened the door to it so they can come upstairs on thier own. We bring them up, and carry them around and show them stuff, but they shake! So we let them decide where they want to be, but wherever they are we make sure that before and after they are played with, hugged and petted allot...they like the laundry room and are taking lots of time to get used to coming upstairs..they've only been here since saturday so i guess i am rushing them. We had heard them up in the living room last night..so they like to come up in the dark..its gonna take time but when i get all three together.. they'll be pictures galore!!!!!!

Good. Let them get used to the house at their own pace. Think of them like a child in the NO stage. If they don't want to do it, they won't.

You say they are 18 months old, right? Where were for the first part of their lives? If they were in a small space, your open house is kinda scary to them.

Hi there catspaw66...

I just tried to pm you, but there is something definately wrong with this computer... I can't send a pm and when i try to close it, i have to go back a page to get rid of it. anyway... my husband can look at that... These three are 24 months old.. i was wrong on that... and their mom was taken in by a man at cat rescue. He fosters cats until they get a furever home. Their mom was pregnant and she delivered the three of them in one sac, one placenta... i think they were in an apartment with other fosters, but he has kept these three together for two years.. so i may be rushing it a bit... ( yeah, allot i would say) but they are used to an apartment i believe and we live in a ranch bungalow, no big showy place, but bigger than they are used to and no other pets around. I find the basement a bit cool (albeit finished) and i just wish they would come upstairs and  see the sunshine and warmer temps... i guess i can't rush it.. but they are so sweet and love cat bum scratches, and tummy rubs etc.. but don't like it up here.. i guess its bigger and more open. I will email thier foster dad and see what stuff was like for them and see just what i can do to make them more comfortable.... I will email him and see what he can tell me and then can keep you all posted... its good to pass around the info for others to keep up on, just never know when the same situation arises...

talk later

thanks so much
