A pregnant stray adopted us about 3 weeks ago, is it common for strays to adopt families when they become pregnant?  Do they typically stay with the family after the kittens are born and grown?

Yes, it very common the high pregs try and adopt a family. Or otherwise, to please themselves in.

And yes, if you are welcoming to her, she will probably want to stay with your family.

My guess is she got dumped, when she turned out pregnant.  OR got astray when she was in heat, and sneaked out in search of love.

Cats are like humans: the welfare of her children is more important than "freedom".  so even rescued ferales usually do cooperate, as soon they realise the rescuer is not threating, even friendly, and this is the best practical chance for her children.

But these semiferale / ferale pregs usually seek out human help a little later, when they are really high preg.

As said, I think yours was a family cat once.  And thus - she will want to stay if she is  allowed.

Please continue with reports and questions!

I shall ask a mod to make your own thread from this here post.  You dont need to do anything.   :)

Good luck!

It happened to me, I certainly intend on keeping her if she'll stay and given that she's been inside now for 4 weeks and I obviously won't let her out till she can be spayed which is at least another 8 weeks depending on when she finally gives birth I'd hope the chances of her wanting to stay are high.
I do think she's been someone's pet previous.y though as she used the litter tray right away and is very friendly even with my kids (though a little less so now she's ready to give birth any minute )
