Hi all,

I am new to the forum. I am proudly owned by a spoiled 3-year old Balinese cat named Alaina.

To stick to my question in topic, yesterday, approximately 15 minutes after eating her dinnertime dry kibble and wet kibble (Wellness Core), she made this weird, low gurgling sound (no hacking) and then threw up twice in a row - basically the undigested pieces of her dry food with some green goopy stuff on top. She then backed away quickly and slept for another hour or so. Later that night, around midnight, she pooped - but I'm pretty sure it was from the food she had before dinnertime (because she basically threw up her dinner).

There's nothing big in our house (no pesticides, no house plants - she did swallow a piece of an artificial plant and had to get a $5000 surgery just a couple months ago - we hope she learned her lesson!) that could have blocked her intestines and caused her to throw up - at least I think  and hope  so. The only abnormal thing is that she has been eating a lot of mosquitoes and other substantially sized insects because they've been coming in our house. She had 2 mosquitoes yesterday and so far I believe none today.

I groom her every day (she's medium-longhaired) for 30 minutes to get all of the tangles out of her soft undercoat. She's never had a hairball. I don't think this is one - is throwing up undigested kibble a sign?

This morning, she was acting completely normal - going around the house exploring things, meowing for food, and she had both dry and wet kibble for breakfast and dinner today. So far she has not thrown up at all (and she didn't throw up yesterday overnight either) since last night. She has not pooped yet but she has peed (this is normal - normally she only poops late at night, I don't know why). But she has been going in "meatloaf" position a lot when she sleeps (she looks uncomfortable) - otherwise she has been very active, eating, peeing, drinking water, etc. She's currently in meatloaf position with her eyes barely open..

I know that a potential cause for the vomiting (especially since it was undigested dry kibble) is that she was eating her dry kibble too fast, but this has never occurred before in the 3 years that I have been owned by Alaina. She normally chews one, swallows, waits a couple seconds, and then chews another piece of kibble. This is normal, right?

She's only thrown up once so far, but I'm a little worried (again, I did have a huge incident with her a couple months ago when she swallowed the leaf of an artificial house plant, threw up twice every day for a week, finally  got diagnosed with an intestinal blockage through an ultrasound - we had tried an X-Ray and blood test to no avail, and then had to stay at the emergency hospital for 3 nights for the surgery and sub q fluids. It was a nightmare.) I really hope she doesn't throw up tonight, but I can't help being a little apprehensive.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Glad she's acting normal this morning. I'd certainly keep an eye on her (but don't hoover, cats don't like that!)
How long had it been seen you feed her, before she threw up?
If Ritz goes too long without food (and "long" can be 11 hours one day 11.25 hours the next), she throws up undigested food.

@Ritz  Thank you for the reply.

I think she's almost completely back to normal now. No throwing up since two nights ago, and she pooped last night.

I had fed her dry/wet kibble ~15 minutes before she threw up. She normally gets one breakfast meal around 9-10 AM ish and one nighttime meal around 8 PM. Right now she's sleeping on the bed (not in "meatloaf" position), all stretched out, looking very relaxed. Earlier this morning we played with the laser pointer and she was very active.

I'll keep an eye on her, though. Thanks again!

One of my cats throws up undigested food twice a week. I stopped worrying about it 10 years ago.

So glad she's back to her normal.
Yeah, Ritz throws up around 3 times a week, and I know why (going too long without food). She always wants to eat right after she throws up, and she keeps it down, even red meat.
Now, if she throws up and doesn't want to eat, then I worry.
Morale: anything out of the ordinary FOR YOUR CAT, pay attention and monitor. But I don't take her to the vet every time she throws up or looks at me weird.

Thanks @Ritz  and @Hazmat. She's eating fine and she pooped again today so I'm sure it was just a tummy ache from the mosquitoes or that she had not been eating for too long.

The night that she threw up I was really worried, though, because I thought she had ingested another foreign object!
