hi

my cat has a sebaceous cyst on his neck which was diagnosed by a vet and he has had it a few years. it appears and keeps getting bigger until it burst with clear liquid, heals over then starts again. Every time it happens when we clean it up it doesnt seem to affect my cat what so ever so the vet says it is nothing to worry about

he had one appear 2 days ago and it has burst this evening but this time it has a lot of blood coming out of it, and as we are trying to clean it , it is obvious that it is causing him a lot of pain

he is 13 years old so isnt the youngest of cats now

is this something to be worried about???? it is midnight and i cant get him to the vet to get it checked out

any help would be greatly appreciated

Does it usually appear and burst that fast?  That seems extraordinarily quick from formation to bursting, to me.  And since this time there is bleeding and pain, I would definitely get him in to see the Vet this morning, or possibly afternoon, depending on where you are.  Hopefully you've already done that by now.

Is it in the same place the cyst is usually in or a different place? With the blood it sounds more like an abscess, which can be a mixture of blood and fluid. Could he have possibly been bit by another cat? If it is an abscess, it needed to burst and hopefully the worst is over, they are usually the most painful right before they burst. If anything he will probably need an antibiotic, you might consider the injection type which lasts a week and is a lot easier then trying to give a thirteen year old cat pills twice a day. You could call the vet first and see what they say since they are familiar with your cats history. Good luck and keep us posted!

hey

i took my cat to the vet today and he was kept in for surgeory. He has had the lumped removed which was a tumor, it has been sent off to be examined to find out if it is cancer.

He has also had blood tests to test his kidney and liver function, he has early kidney failure so is not on renal food and medicine for the rest of his life

but after all this he is home and just a bit groggy and unsteady on his feet, look forward to him getting back to normal

I hope your cat heals well and sending vibes that it wont come back cancer.  Personally I do not like the kidney diets unless the cat is in stage 4 kidney disease, even then it's iffy.  I really think the protein restriction in them causes more harm than good.  My own cat has stage 2 kidney disease, I have her on a restricted phosphorus, high protein, low carb diet.  This is an excellent resource, it talks about thyroid but it also is aimed for cats with renal disease.  http://www.animalendocrine.com/wp-c...-Hyperthyroidism-Concurrent-Renal-Disease.pdf  Just my opinion, take it or leave it.
