When was the last time you were in a hospital, either for yourself or visiting someone?

I had to take my daughter to the ER twice in one weekend in early January for a really bad rash that was spreading really fast. It was the weekend so the doctor's office was closed and it was our only option. Other than an ER visit, it would be when I had my gallbladder removed June 2013.

Monday, January 6th, 2014 to pick up a friend. He went to the ER on Saturday and had a procedure done Monday morning. I can't remember if it was before or after that weekend that I went to the hospital for some blood work and an upper GI series (GERD).

October 15, 2013 to visit a friend and her broken arm (broken while she was horseback riding). We're lucky nothing serious has happened this year! (knock on wood)

We just had an ER trip earlier this week. My husband had severe swelling in his legs that became very painful. A quick internet search showed severe edema like that can be a sign of congestive heart failure or the kidneys shutting down, so we went to have him checked out. He is ok, thank goodness, all the blood tests came back normal.
A low salt diet and diuretics were prescribed. He keeps falling asleep sitting at his desk, so I think that exacerbated the problem. After a few days of the pills, many, many rapid trips to the bathroom, and elevating his legs, the difference is amazing. Even his watch is fitting better. I am just thankful he is more or less healthy. We were pretty scared.

Rick's mother fell late one evening a couple months ago. When she went down, she fell backward and slammed her head into the corner of their hutch in the dining room. It bled terribly, even though it really wasn't all that bad (head wounds will bleed). We got the phone call and met the ambulance at the house and followed it to the ER. We pretty much spent the night there as they had to run tests to make sure she was OK and staple the wound. Then we took her back home.
