I am not one to complain. Especially since the care I receive at the va is free of charge. The va has always been hurry up and wait. And that's not what's bothering me either. A lot of changes have been happening as of late. They are annoying but I'll live. What's bothering me is the changes are effecting the doctors, nurses and other staff to the point where they are actually complaining to us the patients. There's a definite tension. The staff is obviously overworked and don't feel like they are being heard. Balls are being dropped all over the place and I feel bad about wanting to be upset about it when it's so obvious something bigger than them is happening. Are there any other vets out there who are noticing this or is this just going on in my neck of the woods?

I'm not a vet, but I don't think this is going on in just vet hospitals. The last time I was in our hospital for blood work, I noticed that the people (employees) seemed to be more harried, that they're constantly behind and struggling to play "catch-up". And it's not easy to catch up anymore. The waiting rooms were all full and it's more and more like a long line of people going in and coming back out. It's sad and I'm not sure how efficient it is, but I think it's the way things are now. And I don't think it's going to improve any time soon.

Thank you for responding. This is need to know information. I was actually considering buying insurance and going to an outside medical provider. But it's obviously must be this new reform. I guess my only choice now is to just to stay as healthy as possible in order to not have to deal with it for a while. I have a chronic illness and stress seems to make it a million times worse. This last visit stressed me out. I better keep away until this gets sorted out.

Money cutbacks are the root of the issue both with the VA and civilian health care.  Government cutbacks across the board have included the VA.  Cutting reimbursements is where the savings have been realized with MCARE, the new plans with the exchanges also have reimbursements lower than the average for private plans.  MCAID expansions in the states that have done that will also wreak havoc.  MCAID reimbursement is obscenely low.

I do medical billing and it's been rough for us since after the first of the year.  Websites to check eligibility are slow or down.  With the plans that are in the exchanges you don't know what's going on as far as reimbursements.  I do ambulance billing, the EMTs try to get some kind of insurance info but that often isn't possible.  I had an acct today that just had Obama care noted on it.

Anytime people have to do more with less and/or are in the middle of chaos they are stressed.  Health care workers shouldn't be laying their issues off on the patients though.  They should just put a smile on their face, keep going, and do the best they can.

I totally agree with you there. Or at the least keep patients out of it. I can empathize with people losing their jobs or getting a pay decrease. It's hard to work when your livelihood is at stake. But I was totally under the impression that it was just the VA. It almost seems as though nobody knows what they are doing, and those who do no longer care. I hope there isn't a gross loss of lives in behind this madness. It's becoming more than I care to deal with so I can only imagine what the people who have to deal with this on the regular are going through. What an unfortunate state of the world the medical personnel are experiencing. And not to mention us patients.
