Last year we adopted a great kitten named Joey and he was reasonably healthy, but he has always sneezed (and by sneeze I mean there are projectile boogers all over the place).  Recently we took him to another vet that specializes in cats and she suggested it may be allergies to dust mites.  She also tested him for an upper respiratory infection but said it isn't likely and there are no other health problems other than sneezing.  We are waiting for the test results to come back before starting him on some allergy medication. But what do you guys think about the diagnosis allergy to dust mites? I did not known cats could be allergic to dust mites.

Yes, cats can have all sorts of allergies, just like humans.

Let us know what the results show..

Well we got the results today and he has bordetella which the vet said can treated with antiobiotics. We are going to try the pill form if that doesn't work we'll try to get it in liquid form from a compounding facility.

I looked up Bordetella and I'll probably have my mom bring it up with the vet but we are a multi-cat household and  our sick cat has been living with our other two cats for about 6 months but none of the other cats have any symptoms. Do you guys think they should all go on antibiotics? I've heard that if bordetella  turns into pneumonia it can kill cats very quickly.

Overall I'm just glad we took the cats to a new vet our old vet had previously just dismissed our sneezing cat and said he was fine.

This is definitely a case for antibiotics.. the vet will know how to deal with the multi-cat situation.

I find one of those pill dispensers really useful, but how you administer them really does depend on the cat.

You might like to read this:

It would be interesting to know what the vet says about the multi-cat issue..

Thanks for the link, and the vet said she doesn't want to medicate the other cats unless they start showing any symptoms so for now just working on medicating one cat.
