Cat safe pesticides?

Hi there. I have recently moved in to a house with 3 other girls. Me and another girl in the house have adopted cats - a mother cat and her kitten - and things are going well. Except this house has a bit of a pest problem. We have cockroaches. Now, they're New Zealand roaches, so they're not as nasty as the ones you get in America/England/Aussie, thankfully. But they're still pretty awful. And they are too numerous and fast to catch and kill by hand. We're going to have to resort to spraying them to even get the situation under control. But I'm worried about the cats, I don't want them to get hurt. Can anyone recommend some pest spray brands that are cat-safe? Thanks for your time. 

Have you tried diatomaceous earth?

Worth a shot and you're not spraying all those chemicals around. I imagine you'd need to be pretty persistent in applying it though.

Yes, good suggestion by pushylady. I would just emphasis the importance that it needs to be 'food-grade' diatomaceous earth, as there is pool-grade which would be toxic to cats and other animals.
