Hello, just a quick question!

Does anyone feed their cats this anymore?
I know there was a recall sometime in June or July 2013.. Well its 2014 now, so I am wondering if it is alright for me to return to this brand? I loved the fact that it had only about 6% carbs!

Right now I'm using Merricks brand and from what I've calculated , it has quite a lot of carbs from 20% up to 30% even..

I really want to return to EVO but I don't think its a good risk right? I'm not too sure . Hopefully someone may answer, it would definitely be helpful!

NaturaPet was purchased by Procter and Gamble, makers of Iams and Eukanuba, recently. I have noticed a decrease in ingredient quality since then and no longer feed Evo or any of the Natura products because of it and I believe some of the ingredients in these foods may now be sourced in China.

As far as low carb kibbles go, the lowest carb kibble I have found is Orijen Six Fish. Similar price tag to Evo. Better ingredient quality. Chelated minerals.

I don't know about Evo, but there is a new food out there now, Young Again Zero Carb that I've been hearing about...zero carbs!  Also, Nature's Variety Instinct is fairly low - around 13% carbs.  And also there's Wysong Epigen 90.  It's very low.

It's funny you ask this @Jin Xiong Lor. I was wondering the same thing. My Caesar was on the EVO dry (as well as the 95% wet), and it really helped him put on weight last year. It is very calorie dense at 602 calories per cup; the highest I could ever find. I typically don't buy a brand once they've had mass recalls and/or problems, but I had been considering it because I need Caesar to gain weight again. When the EVO was pulled from the shelves, I had no choice but to transition him, and I choose Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient Diet Turkey.

I have considered Young Again since it is also high in calories (590 per cup).

Yeah I'm still deciding whether or not to return to EVO . One of the mom and pop stores, near me, has COMPLETELY stopped stocking EVO/Innova since the recall last year.

Anything recalled scares me away. Gets me paranoid and I'll always remember why it was recalled.

At the moment I have been reading about the foods suggested in this thread. So far, I haven't really made a decision in switching foods yet. Decisions Decisions Decisions haha...

My cats love EVO. Maybe you could call them up and ask them what they've done to clean things up and then decide from there?

The recall on Evo was not related to an issue with the plant. They had an employee that was infected with Salmonella show up to work. I'm sure the employee has been fired by now. Recalls cost companies lots of money.

It's not really the recall that concerns me. I don't know if any of you are dog owners, or have paid attention to the chicken jerky fiasco that has been happening over the last five years, but the waggin train chicken jerky and other similar brands, like canyon creek ranch and Milo's Kitchen were all sourcing their jerky strips from a Chinese vendor who was buying their chicken meat from a farm that gave an antibiotic (that is illegal in the United States, because approximately 1 in 10,000 people just die when they take it) that caused 700 dogs across the country to die. A Chinese meat supplier was responsible for that and I will not feed foods that buy meat from China as a result of this and other recalls.

And of course, most recalls that are not related to an employee who is infected with salmonella showing up to work, are related to a tainted protein source in China. That's my issue with Evo now. Natura Pet used to buy all of their meat from suppliers in the United States. Now that P&G owns it, I have emailed their corporate offices and asked if they source ingredients in China now. They did not say yes, but they did not say no. I'm certain that they knew that if they told me "yes", not only would they lose a customer, I would have posted a copy of that email on the internet for everyone to see. Their ambiguous response, told me everything I needed to know. In my mind, because of Chinese ingredient sourcing, Natura Pet products are no longer safe.

Meh. Cats still like it. Don't use it often enough for one bag of it to impact my boys...also mix it with another product.

Lucky you. My finicky Evo only cat will not eat the new formula. And now with the newest recall I am desperate to find something that he will.
