My kitty will be 6 months on March 1st and she has been a real biter while teething. What I've noticed lately is sometimes she makes a crunching sound. I thought it was her eating her teeth as they came out but she never actualy looks like she's eating anything.  My questions are: Is she eating her teeth? Is it normal that she doesn't appear to be chewing on anything just because her teeth are so small and probably soft by that stage? Do the teeth have any nutritional value for her ( like rocks for birds)?

Very likely she has already lost some of her baby teeth and they've been replaced. It can be hard to tell as the new teeth grow in fairly quickly. You don't really get a "toothless grin" phase like you have with human kids

I've never heard of kittens eating their own teeth though. I guess a tooth can be accidentally swallowed, as can happen with kids, but it would probably be passed out into the litterbox at some point. I don't think teeth can be digested very well.

I had heard about the eating thing years ago and just found it again online.

She was in bed with me this morning and I got a first hand glimpse of what goes on when the crunching happens.  Her mouth moves a little but it's not like I see a big gulp. It's kinda gross, lol, but I guess it's natural.  I'll take her to the vet when the snow melts. Other than that she's in perfect health- I shouldn't say other than that because that's not effecting her, she's in perfect health. Her biting has calmed down a bit which is nice.  Thanks for the input.
