Hello,

My little guy was diagnosed with pink eye about a month ago.  Scratches were ruled out.

I was prescribed Tobradex drops 3x a day for a couple weeks, then stopped.

Basically one of his eyes are cloudy and the white part around the eye is pinkish/inflamed.

His behaviour is just fine - playful, normal appetite etc.

Does anyone here have experience with meds. that were successful?

Sorry but I don't have any experience with this. I would call the original prescribing vet and ask for a follow-up appointment because the med clearly did not work. Either there's something more serious going on, or the med prescribed was not the right one.

I do not have experience with conjuctivitis, but I have with Tobradex. I successfully used this with my herpes virus kitties.  Tobradex contains a combination of tobramycin and dexamethasone, it works as an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. However, I was always told to use Tobradex for no more than 7 days, as it can lose its effect.

I do not understand if Tobradex didn't change anything or it made things worse. Either the case, your vet should be able to prescribe something else. At one point, during one of Harley's flare-ups, we were on 5 different ointments and drops.

If your cat has gotten worse on Tobradex, she might have an intolerance to one ore more of the ingredients (I have seen this with Cavasan and Gentomicin, different ointments).

Poor guy, tetracycline is an ointment, a pain to put on his eye.  He's squinting now due to the ointment - I was liberal with the amount, perhaps too much.  He's ticked off and hiding under bed.

Drops are so much easier. Oh well, trial and error.

Now I'm going to call the Vet tomorrow. It's been 3 full days of 3x tetracycline / day.  His eye is 2/3s closed for hours at a time.  Possibly a reaction to it? I can't say the tetracycline is doing much of anything and the redness in the whites of the eye is still quite inflamed.

I almost feel the Tobradex was working better,  by reducing the inflammation somewhat by 3 weeks use. And certainly no squinting for hours.
