My 4 month old boy kitty was neutered yesterday morning. I thought when I first saw his testicles after the operation they were deflated but now they are full. Is he bleeding inside or is this normal? I can't find any pics of a neutered cat that are of the area I need.

Some swelling is normal. If it looks nasty red or weepy, call the vet. But if not, it's just part of the healing process.

I can only speak for our older boy who was not neutered until we rescued him at approximately 8mos of age.  The first 48hrs after the neuter he looked like he still had a full set on him, and because I kept a close eye on everything going on in that region during his recovery .. I will say that they felt full for those 48hrs before it seems the swelling started going down.  But no redness, no bleeding.

As always, anything that your gut instinct is making you question, it's better to ring your vet to ask them to take a look.  Hope he's all better soon!

Thanks ALL of you for the comments. I am going to watch him and in the morning make a decision. He seems better and walking okay, he is playful today and does pee and poop. His area is still swollen and red and partially bruised looking. If he doesn't have a noticeable change for the better, I will take him in. It is definitely filled with blood but I don't think still bleeding. I think by tomorrow his body will start reabsorbing the blood and the swelling will go down. I won't chance it though if It has no change at all or is worse. Thank you!!! Love that I can talk to real people anytime with my kitty questions:)

what worries me is you said at first inspection there was no swelling and now there is...did you have a chance to call the vet?

They could've just be inflamed from the "trauma" of the surgery.  Keep an eye on them and if they get worse or turn angry red, immediate vet attention is needed.

I would take him in just to be on the safe side. The check up should be free and you will have some peace of mind. My 2 boys were done 3 or 4 months ago and I thought that the area for both of them looked a little like they still had their parts. They did swell more too and were really noticeable on my short haired cat. (doesn't help that the area was shaved too making them even more noticeable than before). I took in the little guy to get them checked and the vet said that the swelling was completely normal. Even a little bruising is normal too. If the kitten is in pain or if there is any bleeding or pus or anything like that then there needs to be a visit for sure. The swelling should go down in about a week or so, then they parts will look normal again but just a little deflated. Best of luck for both of you!

I have an appointment w my regular vet today. The place that did the surgery, fix nation is an hour or more away depending on traffic. The swelling has gone down some but not enough for me to feel like he is in the clear. Thanks for the advice, better safe than sorry.:nod::nod::nod::nod:

Good job!  My vet always says that I know my cat best, so it doesn't hurt to err on the side of caution.  Let us know what you find out and keep us posted on his progress.

OMGosh!  You forgot the cuteness warning!!!  They are so adorable and I'm glad they're doing well.

I know that the recommendation is that males are neutered as soon as possible after they reach a certain weight.  But I am concerned that your little boy may have been a bit too young.

When I took my three month old boys in for their first check up, my vet said that they would be old enough in about another month or two.  Several posters here concurred with that, when I questioned, because I had always been told between 7 and 9 months.  That was ‘old school’ I was told.

I was also told to do it before their hormones had a chance to kick in and they started to spray.  I certainly wanted to do that.  But I also read here to make sure that the penis was fully developed first.  I was concerned about my B & W boy, because he had a slightly un-descended testicle.

So I was concerned about everything.  And when I saw my boys start to wander across the yard, and we have strange, intact males wandering into the yard, and all, I decided that the time had come.

My boys were fixed at about just shy of six months of age.  I saw the penis on the B & W kitty, so I knew he would be okay.  And they are okay.

I hope your little boy will be okay.  Please keep us posted...

I wanted to have my little guy neutered when he was 2 months old or 2 lbs, but my vet is old school.  We settled on 5 months.  I've never heard of any kitties who get pediatric neuters to have any more problems than those neutered at later ages.

Just beautiful kittens!

Glad to hear everything is going well with the neuter.  Such a nerve-wracking decision we make for them .. but so much healthier in the long run for all our fur kids.
