Just throwing in my two cents here. I bought the white one with the stainless bowl. It was the last one Lowe's had in a box and was reduced to $199. For the record, and maybe to help someone make a decision, my mixer is 275 watts. A friend from church loaned me one of hers which was 250 watts to let me see if it would mix the gluten free mixes. Hers did it pretty good and when I found the 275 watt one, I knew it would handle my needs. I make gluten free bread doughs and I don't think anything can be a tougher bread dough than that. I am in love with my Kitchen Aid Mixer and my Speed Queen Washer. They are two things in my house I would not part with. Even though I got a great price on the mixer, I still considered it pricey for my budget. But I have never looked back, only to wish I had bought myself one years ago when I really did much more baking, etc than I do now.

Katherine and I made yoyo bickies today. She creams butter and sugar beautifully ;)
blueyedgirl5946 blueyedgirl5946 the toaster in Australia costs $199 lol!!
Winchester Winchester I am dreaming of a KA processor. It would be really worth it. First I want the pasta maker attachment. I loved my old sunbeam but there is a big difference. I think it should be mandatory to own another brand mixer first, that way you really know just how wonderful a KA is.
Here's Our yoyos

Oh, very nice! .. It looks almost like ice blue up against your blue backsplace at first glance, but is the brushed stainless look, yes?

Mine is a butter yellow colored mixer

Thankyou. I think she's so pretty. She is a stainless colour but they call it "sugar pearl silver". Even the name of the colour is classy and yummy!!! :) all the colours are gorgeous. It's hard to decide which one.

Tammat, what are yoyo biscuits? Are your biscuits like our cookies? They look delicious! You can come cook for me anytime!

(But good lord, your prices are outrageous!
I got Big Red when it was on sale, plus we got a free attachment--our choice and I chose the food grinder--and we got $50 rebate in the mail. I think we paid about $250 for it when it was done and we got the rebate back. And that was quite a steal for a KA 6-quart Pro. We had just happened to walk into Williams-Sonoma and it was strictly a one-day only sale. I asked her if they had a red one. They had one left. I said, "It's mine!" And Rick bought it for me that year for Christmas; the store even gift-wrapped it.
)

Years and years ago, I had a Hamilton Beach stand mixer. It was a nice mixer, but the beaters kept falling out of the holes. Finally, one beater fell out and got caught in the other beater. It was ugly and I tossed the thing in the trash can right then and there. Then I was using portable mixers for quite a while, until a local store had the KA classics on sale, plus they had free layaway. That's how I bought Baby Blue. When Mom decided she wanted a KA mixer, we gave one to her for Christmas and she used it hard. I got it back when she couldn't use it anymore and I gave it to my niece.

I now have two KA stand mixers and two portable mixers (one is a Hamilton Beach that I don't think I've ever used and one is a KA....I do use that one from time to time.) Mostly I use Big Red.

Yes we call cookies biscuits. Your cookies are mostly soft in the middle though? Right? Ours are mostly crunchy all the way through. I prefer your cookies. YoYos are like a soft shortbread with custard powder. They are everywhere here in our bakeries, coffee shops ect.. I've seen pics of your baking and you are an awesome cook. I'd love to try one of your cookies or 15 or so!!!
Here's some more prices to shock you!!! Big Red would cost you $1,200!!!! Here. Your kitchen appliances would be the envy of many Australian women!!! The pasta attachment is $250.

It depends on the cookie, but yeah, most of our cookies are soft. As least, most of mine are as we like a softer cookie to start with.  The biscotti that I make, I use an American biscotti dough that is softer than traditional biscotti.....it makes for a slightly softer biscotti. Those yoyos look absolutely amazing and I'd love to try them. What is custard powder? Is it a powder that you add liquid to to make a custard? That's interesting, too. Would you mind posting your yoyo recipe? Please?

Oh good grief, $1200 for Big Red?? $250 for the pasta attachment?? I think it's like $60 or $70 around here. I never got one because my MIL gave me her old pasta maker. It's hand cranked, but it does the job. When I make noodles, I just make them by hand though. Roll the dough out as thinly as possible, then roll it up and slice thinly. Or if I'm making ravioli, I just roll the dough out, square it off, and fill and cut that way. I will never complain about prices here again....well, yeah, I will. But now I will always think of your prices. Holy cow. If I ever move to Australia, I will have to bring my kitchen stuff with me!

Thanks, Tammat! I've never even heard of custard powder.
I googled it to get some info. Can I use vanilla pudding powder as a replacement for custard powder? Here, Jello makes instant puddings....you add the powder to milk and mix. Would some kind of an instant custard mix work in your yoyos, if I can find it?

I'm going for a few groceries tonight and you know that I have to check for custard powder now! And if I can't find it, I noticed that Amazon sells Bird's Custard Powder. Is that it?

Thanks much! Those yoyos of yours looks so delicious I really want to try them!

(And this is why I shall never be thin.)

ETA: I was looking for a custard powder replacement.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/486405-how-to-replace-custard-powder/  Says that you can replace it teaspoon for teaspoon with cornstarch. And then add a bit of extra vanilla for flavoring. Yes? No? Your thoughts?

@Winchester   I would seriously not use that custard powder replacement idea..  the thought of it appalls me!

That Bird's Custard Powder will do it.  Or I could post you some from here..

Oh....well, all-rightey then! No custard powder replacement. I will check the store tonight. If I can't find it there, I will go back to Amazon. But thank you for your offer.

I have seen it at World Market if you have one there.  I love that place.  I go there for loose leaf tea and European style 'biscuits'.

Yes Birds Custard powder is perfect. It's exactly the same. I'm pretty sure it has the recipe to make custard on the side. Try that too. Warm custard is delicious. You can add cut up bananas or pour it over apple pie or make a trifle with it. The options are endless. I have a recipe to try for an apple raspberry custard pie. If it's yummy I'll pass it onto you.

My co-worker did an Amazon order this morning and he included a 600-g container of Bird's Custard Powder for me. It should be here around the end of next week. When he said that he included the powder in his order, he told me that I had to share the Yoyos with him.
 Works for me!

Thank you for the recipe! And if you like your apple raspberry custard pie, I'll take that recipe, too! Please!

(I'm not real crazy about custard per se, but I do like it in recipes like my bread pudding. Around here, years ago, the stores carried something called Junket, which was a kind of custard mix. I looked for that at the store on Monday when we were looking for the custard powder, but the store no longer carries Junket. I don't know if it's even made anymore. Now, I do like flan and similar dishes. One of my GFs makes a delicious flan; she uses a food torch to "caramelize" the sugar on top. What is that called; it's right on the tip of my tongue....I hate it when I can't remember stuff!

Creme brulee is the dessert that you torch a layer of sugar on top.  It used to be a fancy dessert sold only at top restaurants then the little kitchen torches became widely available so now it's a dessert that people can make at home.

When I came work this morning, there was a container of Bird's Custard Powder on my desk. Lord, it's a 600 g can! I wonder if I'll get it all used up.

Yoyos will be made on Sunday, since Rick will be home. Stay tuned! I'm excited!
