Sense last Wednesday,  I have had the worst week!  Last Wednesday when we had a lot of ice from sleet, I slipped on my steps.

(I lived in MN for over 6 yrs. so I know what ice looks like, but my steps just looked wet, not iced over. maybe because they are cement).

Anyway, the roads were fine, so I was going to go to work. I approached the stairs carefully, holding on to the railing, & I slipped down 3 steps, on my butt!  I reached out on both sides grabbing the railings to stop myself, & almost taking a big flower pot down with me. I also hit my left elbow.

My butt was soaked, but I had to just sit there a minute. "Thank God I did not go down all 12 steps!"  I very carefully got up, & came back inside.

I looked at Angel & said, "Mommy's staying home today!"

So my left S.I joint area, & my left elbow were the casualties, along w/ sore arms from reaching out to stop myself.

(& yes, I did work this week!) . IS IT SATURDAY YET??!.....

If that weren't enough, someone hit my car on Monday!  ("I mean, REALLY?!")

I had just turned out of my driveway, & a little pick up truck was backing up down the road, toward me! (side neighborhood street).

(It was an old guy who used to do work for my landlord).

He must have forgot something, I don't know, but was backing up, & not even looking!! Not turned around, & not looking in his mirror either!

It was too fast for me to back up, so I laid on my horn, & then it happened. BAM! Right into the front of my car!

He admitted it was his fault, , but I was so mad I didn't say to much, other than getting his info.  (or I might have gone off!)

I was just so mad, I couldn't believe he was backing up down the street  & not even looking!! He doesn't need to be driving!

Anyway, my hood was pushed up a bit, & my passenger side light & grill are gone.

Got a police report, called the insurance companies, etc....

An adjuster from his Ins. company came out today to look at it while I was at work.

He said that because the damage is more than the worth of the car, It is considered totaled!  (& could have more damage under the hood).

It's a 1995 Mazda Protege 4 door. I had been keeping it up as long as I could, (& was in pretty good condition)

until I could afford a car payment. Well, a used one that is, just newer.

It's going to be hard to find a new enough car to not have to be putting money into a lot, & have a payment too.
My poor car!

That's a nasty looking bruise!  And your poor car!  My Mom drove a Mazda protege for ages before replacing it with another mazda.  I think she has the Mazda 3 now.  Her protege was probably 15 years old or so when she replaced it.  And we did lots of trips in that car.

I hope you are able to replace it with something good that fits your budget soon!!

Oh my, you did get some bad bruises. I am so sorry you fell and your car got hit. Prayers going your way. I believe even with all that happened, an angel was watching out for you. That is a tricky looking flight of stairs to navigate in the snow and ice. I am believing for a car for you even better than the one you are losing. Hugs and prayers.

Kelly, I'm so sorry about your week. Looks like you got hammered....and your car did, too.
I hope you can find another car you like and can afford. Car shopping is just a hassle the whole way around. Good luck!

Ouch, those bruises look painful, but you were fortunate not to have fallen all the way down those steps! :cross: that you find a good car at a decent price!

Aww, thanks you guys, I needed those hugs!!!

Yes, I hate what happened, but as my mom said, "It's a blessing in disguise." I've been needing a newer car, but had a hard time saving, because of this one nickle & dimming me.  I know I will feel better in a newer, safer car.  (& so will my parents, I know they worried about me w/ that one).

My mom & my sister are talking to people at their churches who either own a car lot, or know a friend who does to help. I will have what ever I get from the insurance company, & my mom said she could help, a little.

(up to 1,000.00). so that will help. I need someone who will let me pay them directly every month in cash. Sense I just started my cleaning business less than a year ago, & was on unemployment 6 months before that,

I don't have a W2 to show anyone, so just have the records I have kept on my income.( I have each month's calender printed out & I write my clients on their days, & what I made, along w/ the months total at the bottom.)

I dropped angel off at the vet this morning for his dental cleaning. I am hoping he won't need any extractions. It took me almost a yr. just to save up for that!

I pick him up at 4:00.

I came home & cleaned out my car. Man, you don't realize between the inside & the trunk how much stuff you have in there!

I vacuumed, & moped, even though I just did that on Wednesday,  it's ongoing w/ a kitty.

I threw angel's bed in the wash, started some laundry, & finally made some breakfast.

Now, everything will be nice & clean when Angel gets home, & I can relax this weekend!!  I hope!!

I'm not looking at cars yet this weekend, because my mom & sister can't go w/ me, & they are the ones I trust (my sister used to be my agent when she worked @ Stare Farm).

Mom can't leave dad, hopefully he goes home today, & my sister will be at a prayer retreat this weekend.

Good news, the ins. adjuster called & told me the amount of the "total" payout would be way more that I ever thought I'd get! (2,707.00) so what a blessing!! Now I will at least have a decent amount as a down payment on something!  My car being in pretty good shape for a 1995 paid off, so to speak!  I have been thanking God, & asking for help to find the right car for me!

My rental is covered w/ them through Friday (extended a week for me). Then, I will get one through my Ins. company, & they will cover 30.00/day, up to 900.00, so that means 27 days!

That will give me time to find something w/o feeling so rushed.  ..........I hope!    No, "Be positive!"  It will!

Oh that is great news!  I guess it's a bit of an unexpected blessing after all the headache of it.  I hope you find just the right car!  And easily!

I just read your thread, and also want to send you positive thoughts and prayers on a speedy recovery for you and your dad.

"Black Ice" is the worst because it looks like pavement and before you realize it, you slip.

As for your car, it does sound like such a hassle but also a blessing in disguise, since now you can go out and find a newer vehicle.  These are the sites my friends use up here in ontario, so I am not sure if they are of any help down in the states....http://www.autotrader.com  and http://www.carsurvey.org  .  Take Care.

Awww, Thank you all SO Much!!!  I really do appreciate the support & prayers!  Yes, I am going to HAVE to find a car this Saturday.  (Yea, no pressure!) I only have the rental car until the 5th.

I work all week, so that has to be the day. my sister is going w/ me to help. (she just bought my niece a car 2 years ago, so she is a little "fresher" at it than me.

(& sense mom has to stay w/ dad).    So, yes please, prayers are very needed. Thank You!

I'll be glad when all of this is over & settled! I had a bad day today thinking the rental would go back the 28th. I was thinking, "how am I going to go to work, find a car, etc.. w/o having to pay out of pocket for extra days.

Then, just the overwhelming of it all, phone calls, having to find a car in one day etc....  YUP, had another little 2 minute cry when I got home!  Thank goodness, I did get the car until the 5th!

(Oh, & the mail & phone calls from law offices is ridiculous! I just don't answer those calls!!

Wow...I thought it was just me who got all emotional when scrapping a car.  But it is different when someone hits you, as opposed to the car letting you down.  I used to look at some of my old cars and say, "I think I'm going to miss all those memories", but you know, when you get your "newer" car, you will have the time to make all new memories, so that is a positive.  Just remember, when you do get your other car, don't go all wild in the first month, because you got to get used to it.  It is easy to speed and drive it like your old car, but give it like two weeks and then you will wonder why you did not get rid of your other car sooner.

And don't worry about those time-out cries, I think that is a good thing from time to time, since it flushes out the sad, tired, emotions so that they don't hassle you further.

I hate answering the phone when I am stressed so I just screen them and call back when well rested and energized.

That rental looks sweet,  It may be too pricey, but still looks fun to drive.

Thanks Andrya!

cat nap, yes, I am definitely screening calls!!!!

Yes, I've known for a long time now it was time for a newer car, as that one was starting to nickel & dime me!

I just had to get to a place where I could afford a small payment.

"I could use a Spa Vacation!!"  "Who wants to come babysit Angel!"

I would babysit, but your Angel looks like a handful.  Its always the"good looking ones" that give you all the trouble.   And I am only basing this opinion because of that photo you posted in "caption this" with Angel and the Christmas Tree......ahhh.....It looked like he was going to open those wrapped presents.  It made me laugh.

LOL!!!! Thanks. That's funny!  No, he's actually a really good boy. He doesn't jump up on counters etc... only a few times when I hadn't gotten his food down to him in time, or he thinks something I had out is still up there. I'd say he's only done it maybe less than 10 times in the almost 5 yrs. I've had him.  He makes me laugh when he gets the crazies, "galloping" from room to room, or playing soccer w/ one of his ping pong balls, or mousies.
