My gf's cat has decided she likes a corner in her bedroom instead of the litter box sometimes. Anyone else here ever have to deal with this? Were you able to do anything to get the cat to stop?

Cats peeing outside of the litterbox could mean it associates pain with the box. Get a vet checkup to make sure nothing medical is going on first.

If this behavior is new, then I definitely second a vet visit. If this is an ongoing issue, you can try putting a new box in that spot. Also, are you cleaning the peed on area really well with an enzyme cleaner to completely remove the scent?

agree with @molldee  and @vball91

take kitty to the vet.

Here are some things to consider:

1) has kitty been always peeing outside the box since you got her? or is this something new? a vet visit could rule out any health issues if this is something new that kitty is doing out of the blue

2) try placing a second litter box where cat is peeing in the bedroom

3) use an enzyme cleaner (can be found in any pet store) to thoroughly clean the area where kitty has peed outside the box. this will deter her from going again where she smells her scent.

4) try using a cat attract litter, or cat attract herbs in all the boxes you have for kitty. If your cat is a kitten, and she's been peeing outside of the box ever since you got her, could be that who ever took care of her before did not train her well to use the litter box.

5) is she eliminating only urine or also feces? if only urine, this would make me think maybe kitty is associating pain with her box when it comes time to do #1, which again brings us back to the main point, please take kitty to the vet.

I agree with the replies. Cats don't really decide they like a box better, they prefer to be clean and go inside a litter box. Taking her for a check-up is a good idea so you know whether it's stress or a medical condition. I suggest putting a second box in the corner after you've gotten the smell out 100%.

Is she spayed? If not, there's your problem. If she is, and she doesn't have a medical condition, she could still be "territorially anxious", so try putting a cat tree a few feet away from where she usually pees. If she has something of her own near that spot, she might not feel the need to claim it.
