Hi everyone,
Long story short - my cat is leaking a blackish fluid a day after having an enema done at the vet's office and I'm really scared for him. Has anyone else experienced this after an enema? He is eating and drinking but not as much as usual. He also seems really tired and uncomfortable. I gave up constantly cleaning him because his butt was getting sore. He has used the litter box, but all that came out was more fluid.
Long story - My cat Noah had an enema yesterday afternoon and I'm really concerned. He threw up on the way home and ever since then he has been leaking a black fluid. I called the vet and they said that it was the medication they used. I think she said the name of the medication was otomax but I know that's for ear mites so I think I misheard her. That was yesterday. First thing this morning I called the vet back again and left a message. In the meantime, he continued to leak black fluid until recently where it started looking more brown (which I think is good?). The vet said if this is still occurring by Friday, I should start to worry and that it is likely he will need surgery. He thinks Noah has mega colon. I'm just so devastated by this diagnosis, I haven't stopped crying for hours.
Right now, I'm praying for a miracle that I can prevent him from having surgery with the right diet and exercise program because he is really chubby. I'm also trying to figure out the best thing to feed him is because he is all cleaned out. Lastly I'm supposed to give him 2 ml of lactulose which I'm worried could make him worse.
If anyone has any experience or advice it would be much appreciated. In the meantime, I will be scouring the boards here for information. I did visit the yahoo group for cats with mega colon but did not get a response yet. Thanks so much for reading!
