Meow just got spayed today and the vet and techs were all sure that she would be drowsy and too doped up to be overly active. Little do they know that my kitteh is nuts! She's jumping; trying to run around, although I clap to stop her; trying to fight things; and just doing everything I was told to prevent her from doing. She has the cone of shame, so she can't lick the area; even though she tries. I don't want her to injure herself, so how do I stop her from being too active?

She'll probably crash soon.  Sometimes, kittens react the opposite of what you think they'll do.  My kitty was a bit rambunctious after his neuter, then crashed and slept almost all day.

Is she in a room where she can't climb or jump on anything? I have an actual "cat" room (spare room we don't use down in the finished basement) where we put our kitties after surgeries and it has a cat bed, food bowls and a shallow cat pan and that's it. When I go in to spend time, I would sit on the floor and not really interact...but let the cat come to me, and I would try to sooth them but not excite. Try that if you can. I know not everyone has a room with nothing in it,  but it may be better to confine her to a smaller room versus leaving her to the whole house where she might try to jump up on something or get caught with the cone.

Good luck and it'll be over soon...

Kittens come out of these things much quicker than adult cats usually do, and can be a real pain. LOL

If you think she is really in danger of opening her stitches, keep her in her carrier (or even better, a cage or crate if you have one), and let her out to use the litterbox.  After another 24-48 hours you should be able to leave her run of the house again.

I'm keeping her in my bedroom, and let her into the other rooms only if I can be there. I live in an apartment and that's the only option I have. She wore herself out, thankfully. I hope she stays sleepy tomorrow.
