I have been trying to fix this problem in Microsoft Word. I print up some pictures on the printer for our fax cover sheets, and I have never had a problem until this morning. They come out as black boxes and even parts of the text! I have no idea how to fix this, and I have 3 more hours to figure it out!!!! Someone have any suggestions?

I didn't know that they had one. I just told my boss that I can't do it. I am taking the printed pages home to Zack, so he can tell me what to do...hopefully he will know.

here is what it says in microsoft word troubleshooting for graphics not printing:

"
•You might be printing in draft mode. To print the borders and graphics in the document, click Options on the Tools menu, click the Print tab, and then clear the Draft output check box.

•Make sure the Drawing objects option, which prints graphics, is selected. On the Tools menu, click Options, click the Print tab, and then select the Drawing objects check box.

•You may be trying to print the field codes for a linked graphic rather than printing the graphic itself. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Print tab. Clear the Field codes check box.

•Microsoft Word or the operating system might be low on memory. Do one or more of the following:
-Quit any other programs you're running.
-Save the document you want to print, and then close any other windows you have open.
-Switch to print layout view. On the Tools menu, click Options, click the View tab, and then clear the Picture placeholders, Status bar, Vertical ruler, Horizontal scroll bar, and Vertical scroll bar check boxes.
-Switch to normal view. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab. In the Style area width box, type 0 (zero).
-Hide the toolbars. On the View menu, click Toolbars, and then clear all check boxes.
-Quit Word, and then restart it.
-Quit all open programs, and then restart your computer.
Disconnect any network connections, and then quit terminate-and-stay-resident programs (TSRs) and any other utilities you usually run. "

Exactly Sicy! Reboot both the printer and the computer. My printer was printing out symbols instead of words and I rebooted everything and it worked great after that.

It would help to know which version of word you are using. If you have publisher on you computer try creating the page on that and see what it does. Also you can go to your printer's settings and make sure that it is still set like it should be. If that is not the problem contact you printers company help line and tell them what going on,the problem could be with the printer and not word.

Thanks...well I never could figure out the problem. I am not even going to worry about it till I have to do it again next week (it's a weekly thing that I do those stupid sheets)...I get off from work at 2 today, so I have to worry about more important things...my husband said something like try printing in a grey scale...does anyone know how to do that? I'll try it if any knows what he is talking about!...LOL..

If you are getting little black boxes, then most likely it's not the file, it's your printer driver (if it was the file itself you wouldn't be able to open it or it would come up as funny characters on the monitor). Sounds like the driver is corrupted. Have you tried printing anything else? If it works fine with other applications then obviously it's not the driver--but I'll bet you can't.

To fix this, you just need to reload the driver. Find the diskette or CD that came with your printer and reload it. If you don't have the original copy, then go out to the website and download a fresh one (which may not be a bad idea since any printer older than a few months is going to have updates).

I wouldn't wait until the last minute to fix this. Do it now so you don't have to worry. Your problem isn't going to disappear!

Otherwise, you have my permission to use this mallet-->

cat_scratch has very good advice because it really sounds to me like the printer is not recognizing the characters or something.

Computers are such a pain in the behind sometimes.
