So I feel horrible for saying this but Chloe is at a shelter. We thought maybe she would have a better chance at a happier life. When Chloe had Little Man...she didn't know she had him. He was the 5th kitten to be born and she was tired. We had to interfere and break the sack because she was totally oblivious. Therefore we think they never bonded. He would always chase and aggravate her and over the past few years...she was becoming a different cat. She actually started to hiss at us. And the others that she was getting along with...she would hiss at them even if they walked by her. A few times she would just squat down and pee on the carpet in front of us. Maybe I'm just trying to justify taking her to a shelter...but it was the best of intentions. We feel horrible...because we won't know her fate...if she gets a happy ending...or if they put her down.  Ugh....darned if you do and darned if you don't. I was just trying to do the best thing for her. :/

On the other hand...our recent addition is no longer an addition. We found out that he belongs to the neighbor. That he was an indoor/outdoor cat. We got him neutered and he has been inside for the last month. When we gave him back they just put him back outside. So all we can do is keep food/water outside and an a box with some blankets.

I guess let the criticism begin...I guess I deserve it....

We all do the best that we can and have to deal with the decisions we make. All we can do now is pray for a happy ending for Chloe, what ever form it may take.

Do you know if she even has a shot at adoption?  Owner surrenders are different then a stray who has to be held for x amount of days and if on public display may get application before stray hold is up.  Surrenders can usually be brought right to back and euthanized on spot if they see fit

If you were honest about her litter box habit I would say unless they have a lot of resources that there is not much hope.

Personally I would have tried her as an outside cat or done what needed to be done and had her euthanized so last thing she saw was a caring face rather then a noisy shelter full of smells and the death room smell.

This is coming from someone who has many cats and has had to make the decision to end the life of a dog that was getting worse about aggression and also un housetrained to point he would lay in own waste even if I had him running free in house.  I have also had a cat euthanized for a managabe condition in a normal pet but due to her take on life treatment would have meant stressing her 2 times a day to give medicine.

Sadly, I have to say you should assume they put her down immediately. Cat overpopulation is so bad that unless it's an adorable kitten or a super-friendly adult cat with zero behavior problems, very few cats get out of shelters alive :(. If I thought a cat had to go I would take them to my own vet to be put down so they wouldn't die scared among strangers. But what's done is done. . .everybody learns from past experiences.
