Hello everyone!
My husband and I currently live in Howard County, MA with six beautiful ex-feral cats. I just found this site and am so grateful for the huge wealth of information there is here.
Our last dear shelter kitty, Sheldon, passed away in 2012 at the age of 25. My husband and I knew that our home wasn't a home without cats and therefore decided to adopt another cat from the shelter. However, we came across quite an unexpected turn of events when one morning, I found a pregnant feral mama cat (Maine Coon/mix) under our minivan. Over the course of two weeks of feeding, I was finally able to trap her and take her home; I placed her in a comfortable, warm, large dog crate in the master bedroom. She was initially extremely terrified of us but after two months gradually started to warm up. On November 22, 2013, she had four adorable feral kittens (three females and one male), and now they are 12 weeks old.
Both mama and kittens are doing wonderfully with the socialization process. After the birth we spayed Evie (the mother cat) so she wouldn't have any more troubling heat cycles, and we recently spayed and neutered the four kittens. I have been gradually transitioning Mama Cat to raw as she had IBD when we first took her in. After doing days of research on TCS and other websites, we decided to take the plunge and try homemade raw. It (and meds/supplements) has been a miracle worker for us.
We named the four kittens as well- they all look strikingly like Maine Coons (perhaps their father was also one). They have been doing just fine and they love to play with Da Bird. Over the course of twelve weeks they have also gradually warmed up to my husband and me. We have also been feeding the kittens raw and they love it.
We got the first chance to pet Evie (without having to wrap her in a towel) a week ago. We also found out that she purrs like a truck engine.
Should I post a few pictures? I have taken so many that I would probably crash the site if I posted all of them...
Thank you
