My cat, Fig, is acting awfully weird. She is incredibly close to term, but I'm unsure how far exactly. I'm estimating about 2 months. What are some experiences you ladies have had with past pergnancies??? Any advice will help, thank you so much! -Sam, Nick and Leah

My cat started having contractions about an hour ago. They were about 2 minutes apart. This only lasted about 20 minutes and now she doesn't appear to be having any at all- she's just lying on her side. Is this normal?? We are super nervous please help!!

I am not much of an expert, but things usually progress naturally.  If she seems fine, let things go at there own pace.  If she seems to be uncomfortable, panting, or in pain, then it is time to intervene.

Hopefully by the time you read this everything will be okay.  If she is a first time mom, she might not know what to do and that  is why she is not nursing, Also she might not be nursing because she is still in labor and is not comfortable nursing at this time.  You might have to gently hold her in place and put the kitten at the nipple for the mom to realize what she is supposed to do. Godd luck and hope all goes well.

Nay, they can have pauses, hours, even days.   So the advice is the same as earlier:  if mom is ok, contend, relaxed - you shall observe but can wait and see.

But if she has problems, contact your vet.   We dont like long prolonged fruitless labors either.

The first labor with the first kitten may be long  (but observe cats have generally shorter labor than humans)

, but the subsequing labors shall be shorter,  if more than 30 minutes - do worry.

Good luck!.

With my cat, it took her at least 6 hours and had 7 kittens.  I have no idea when everything started or when the first one was born because she had them in the middle of the night, early morning hours.  Just relax, dont sit there watching her. It makes it seem longer.  Dont go to far from her in case she needs you, but dont hover, it may be making her nervous.

What exactly is weird about her behavior? If you could tell us, that may help.  I believe, when a cat is getting very close to giving birth, behavior will change (in a normal way). Thanks!

I noticed you haven't posted in awhile.  How are things going? Any more kittens?  Any more questions?
