I recently about three weeks ago adopted a three month old kitten from the shelter. He is happy and playful and eats right and seems fine but as I was petting him the other day I felt a small lump on his right back leg under the skin. It doesn't seem to pain him when I touch it and it is not connected to bone from what I can feel. It is smaller than a grape. I have read that it can be from a vaccination seeing as he came with all of his shots and chipped. Is this normal?

It is not common no.  But what it can be, I dont know. I hope someone has an idea.

I suppose you can contact the shelter, they do surely have access to a vet.

Good luck!

From what I have read online Including this site it is not uncommon for this to happen after receiving a vaccine. I really think that is what the lump is. I am taking him to the vet this week.

If he was vaccinated in the leg it might be a possibility. As these lumps form at the vaccination site. Most vets vaccinate cats in the neck scruff but some vets are starting to inject in the leg now. But I don't think this is common practice yet.

Best to get it checked out by a vet

Back from the vet and she confirmed the lump IS from a vaccine.
