My 11 yo girl Gabbie was just diagnosed with jaundice, and I have just learned that she has fatty liver disease, after only a few days of not eating due to a URI. I am trying everything i can to get her to eat canned cat food, but she'll only consume about an 1/8 of a can per day. I've read that dandelion and milk thistle can help. Is this true? Please help. I need advice for my baby girl.

You need to force feed your cat 1/8 of a can is not nearly enough.  Was she hospitalized by the vet?  If not that might be a good idea to help get her through the slump.  Milk Thistle can help with liver problems, but a lot of times fatty liver just needs time to heal.  A lot of times they are put on a gastric or nasal feeding tube for several weeks or a month or so until they are eating properly on their own.

There is a supplement called denamarin that helped my kitty recover from fatty liver.  You can buy it on Amazon.  The main thing for recovery is eating.  You will probably need to syringe feed.  There are several videos on youtube that shows you how to do it.  The main thing is to use the side of the mouth and go slow.  Did your vet give you anything like Hills A/D or Royal Canin Recovery?  I used the Hills.  It's a very smooth consistency pate which makes it easy to syringe feed.

Here is probably the best example of those videos:
You must be super-careful that your cat doesn't "aspirate" - breathe in - the food, because that can cause a fatal case of pneumonia and cats are particularly susceptible. NEVER squirt the food (or any liquid) down the throat....just insert a few drops of the food into the side corner of the mouth, allow the cat to swallow, then repeat.

The Denamarin is the treatment of choice for fatty liver disease in cats. Here it is: http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/cat/cat-liver-health/denamarin-for-cats

One tip for you: Adjust your mindset from "force feeding" to assist-feeding.....'may seem trivial, but, it will make all the difference!

Keep us posted !
