My 8-month old cat has started exhibiting some concerning behaviors regarding her eating habits just in the last week.

She is on a completely raw and canned diet, but sometimes I give treats or supplemental chews that are a bit harder than her regular food. In the past week, I've noticed that not only is she not finishing her food (which is completely abnormal, usually she scarfs it all down) but she seems to have trouble with the treats and chews. It looks as though she is having trouble picking them up into her mouth, and after a few tries she just gives up altogether. She has never had trouble eating these treats or chews before.

Is it possible my kitty has a dental issue? How can I check at home to see if there is a problem with her teeth/gums?

It sounds like she is teething. But it's best to have her checked over by a vet just to make sure everything is ok

I actually just had her at the vet a few weeks ago, and I remember her mentioning that she had all her adult teeth already. But, of course, I may have misheard.

Is there anyway you can look in her mouth ? Or push her lips back and see if her gums are red ?

Can you look in her mouth?  Sounds like something is definitely going on, if the vet said she had all her teeth, I would get her checked out.

I did look in her mouth and there was nothing noticeable and her gums seem to be of the normal color. I started giving her only cans that are a paté consistency and mushing up her raw food and that seems to help her finish off more of her food. Today I fed her a hard treat and she ate it without a significant struggle. Perhaps she is just becoming a picky cat? :(

Try the softer treats for awhile and see if she'll eat those instead. Even though her adult teeth may have just come in, they may still be sore and giving kitty some discomfort (I am guessing).

As long as her eating habits haven't changed drastically, sounds like she's just going through a phase. Some days she will love the food you give her, some days she will stick her nose up at it. I have two cats...every day is an adventure LOL

If she stops eating then there is cause for alarm and time for the vet.
