Is this a safe way to trick your cat out of heat.

Does anyone know about the "q-tip trick"?
I've done some research and I know getting my Tasha fixed is best for her . Problem is I can't afford it right now. (Laid off since before Christmas) I have learned being in heat can be painful for her and she sounds just miserable. I have a male cat but he is fixed and pays her no attention.(though he loves his moose)
Question 2: is it normal for her to be tender at the base of her tail prior to going into full blown heat?

Hi lovelykitties and welcome to TCS!

I don't have much experience with cats on heat. . I'm going to pop you over to Pregnant Cats and Kitten Care as they have more knowledge about such things and may even be able to help you find a low-cost clinic, as desexing is by far the best option.

I'm glad your boy loves his moose..

Im not sure what the word q-tip trick is, but I know some breeders have their ways.  So I suppose if you know what you do, there are tricks.

Another way I heard of, is to have a fixed male but who still remembers what to do (perhaps fixed first as adult), and let him help out...

In Europe we do also have the Pill.  Although long use of the Pill isnt healthy.  But the pills isnt used in the USA as I understand it.

Aa Mani says, if you arent a breeder and must buy some time because of it, the best is to spay them.

If you live in the USA, here come some adresses:

cheap  spaying:
If you are in the U.S. ,  the ASPCA has an online database.  http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/spayneuter

Or here is a hotline number that will find you a low cost clinic in your area  1-800-248-7729

www.spayusa.org

Good luck!

My big boy has no interest in Tasha. I had him neutered before he ever sprayed for the first time. So there for he has no clue what to do with her. He finds her more annoying then anything lol.
The qtip trick is a way to trick your female cat into thinking she has been mated. By basically inserting a qtip and letting her do the rest of the work. I'm just not sure how safe it really is. I've done it once and it worked. I was just looking for some expert advice lol since I am no expert.

Personally I would not advise any unqualified person to insert anything into a cat, even more so a qtip on a stick into a vagina already with bloated blood vessels because of the cat being in heat. You could do terrible damage.

Just for the record. All that is suggested to insert is only the tip. The research I have done says that a cats penis is rigid and much longer then the tip of the qtip. No pressure is submitted. They say the cat will move how she needs to in order to have a "catgasim".
I do not believe I am harming her and since cats do not bleed like dogs it's very different.
