Incomplete neutering?

Hi,

I have a question about incomplete or botched neutering of male. My kitten had a lot of inappropriate urinating problems and other behavior issues before surgery. Afterwards he continued the biting of his sisters, "humping" fleece blankets and kneeding them. Right before his death and while still at home I noticed that little boy kitty smell again. There was a smell on my bed. It wasn't much. It didn't go through to the mattress. During his illness he spent a lot of time on my bed. It was weird smelling it so far away from his neutering which was this past summer. Can an incomplete or messed up neutering cause kidney failure?

I miss you and love you angel :rub: :(

I've only heard of "incomplete neutering" a few times- I believe it's pretty rare. If just a small amount of testicular tissue remained after the surgery, it's enough to produce testosterone which will make him feel and therefore act like a a "complete" male. However, I've never heard of incomplete neutering directly causing CRF.

However, neutered male cats still will "hump" and knead things like blankets and stuffed animals, either because it's a manifestation of stress, or simply because they enjoy doing it- which may seem disturbing to us, but it's a natural instinct for them, even after neutering. Baloo does this from time to time and he is completely neutered.

I'm sure your boy is now running and playing across the Rainbow Bridge with his fellow kitties.
 RIP little angel.

Thank you. I've thought of a hundred possible reasons for his illness and most seem possible. He was only a year old. He was always getting into things. I'm very protective of my cats and had to be even more protective of him.

I’m so sorry. CRF can take the lives of the youngest kittens to the oldest cats, and it comes terribly quickly. He must have been a wonderfully brave kitten who fought and struggled until he knew he would finally sleep in peace. I'm sure he misses you dearly.

If he was always getting into things is there a possibility he might have gotten into some poison?  Kidney disease can make a cat smell strongly especially in the later phases of it due to increased ammonia in their systems.

I doubt poison. I kept every toxin away from him.

He was incredibly active and playful. Curious and adventurous. I feel his spirit with me in every room I go into. I long to hold and hug him and kiss his little face. I held him in his fleece blanket when the vet put him to sleep. I really hope he felt my love for him during his short life, illness and in ICU.

I am so sorry for your loss. Its so hard to lose a beloved animal, especially when you don't have all the answers. I am sure your kitty felt your presence and love as he was passing, and is still with you.
Wishing you peace in the coming days ...

Thank you. He was very young so it wasn't due to age. I don't drive so there's no anti freeze around and no plants. He was an indoor cat so no one poisoned him. I closed doors to rooms when I mopped until floors were dry. When I cut up onions I was careful to not let him on the stove top until I wiped it. Onions, garlic, chocolate are toxic to cats. I never fed him people food and never let him lick my plates. He got high quality cat food and filtered drinking water. I just don't get it and may never figure it out.
