Would like to know under what circumstances are kibbles recalled? when the company receive more complaints, when there are certain number of pet death? or what?

My kitty had been vomiting nearly daily for more than 1 week, either bile or undigested food since the day I opened a new bag of Solid gold Indigo Moon kibble. Poop is patty, though with no blood maybe that was bcos I feed only about 1 to 2tbs of it. Its certainly isn't a case of transitioning bcos kitty had been on SGIM prior to this new bag.

I checked for recalled pet food, SGIM not listed. I wrote in to the petshop I bought the bag from and also the distributor, but both are not responding to my query after 5days. I will certainly not patronise that petshop anymore, they didn't even have the courtesy to respond by acknowledging my pm when I sent it via facebook.

Though I can't be 100% sure it has anything to do with this SGIM new bag, but that's about the only new item I have added into my kitty's diet. Does any of your kitty have trouble with this batch 34068 09203 0303, Best by date 20 Sep 2014

I don't know what the exact guidelines are, but did you call the company and ask if they are having any other complaints on this lot number?  I would definitely do that at the very least.  Also, you could call your Vet, if you haven't already, and see if they have had other patients coming in with similar problems, plus it's just a good idea to discuss this issue with your kitty with our Vet, as he/she should probably be checked out if that hasn't already happened.

Thanks mrsgreenjeens, I didn't know what to do bcos kitty is still active, eating, drinking well, not at all listless, didn't look sick except for the vomiting. Stopped the kibbles, he hadn't vomited since, so I didn't send him to the vet and didn't think of sending him to the vet while he was vomiting, bcos he looked totally fine, maybe like I said, he gets only that little amount each day.

Maybe I should call the distributor, or maybe I should just ignore and then just throw away the current nearly full bag, since I have already highlighted my issue to them? or maybe let me think about it, if I should go see the vet without kitty and ask if there were any kitties being sent there for food related problem.

Oh...come to think of it, if the vet had enough cases to be alarmed, the vet would have already taken action to either notify the distributor or the authority about the possibility of pet food contamination, do you think so? That is why I just wonder how all those notification or alert goes about.

In many cases you can take the bag back to the store for a refund. This even applies to open bags which have not been recalled. You should call the company to notify them. Your vet is busy and does not have the food or the bag, so they can't call.

There was a link in another thread to an article which said that for a proper investigation to occur the bag shouldn't be returned to the cat food company because it will need to be handed over to a regulatory entity, I forget which one.

Thanks, I'll haven't thrown out the bag yet, look like its better to hold on to it for a while, I'll do just that.
