Thanks for your words of encouragement everyone. My sister and I named him Charlie because of his little black mustache. He must have belonged to someone at some point because he comes in when enticed with food. The first few times he came in my house he rolled around, enjoyed being petted, ate his fill and fell asleep in the middle of the living room floor..........until Jack (the original) Jerry (the comedian) and Morgan(the gentleman) came downstairs and saw him. Howling and hissing ensued and it was time for Charlie to go back out.
We didn't see him for a few days after that. When he returned my sister decided to take him into her house. We live in a duplex, she's on the other side of the wall and we share a huge back porch. She has one cat that she rescued from a neighbor who totally neglected him and after much back and forth gave him up to her. Anyway Mike (her cat) and Charlie are ok with each other and she will give him a forever home once we get this matting issue over with.
Every time he shows up she'll bring him in. Food, pet, a little play, and sleep for a while. After that he yowls and tears at the rug to go out. At night if it's really cold he'll decide it's ok to sleep inside - but I'm talking 10 degrees or less. If he gets shaved and is bald even 30 is too cold as far as we're concerned. I know Maine Coons can handle the cold very well but bald is another story.
Someone mentioned putting moisturizer on his skin - what kind? I'm worried about any chemicals that might be in it.
Anyway, thanks again and I'll keep you posted on the Charlie saga!
