I am new and this is probably the wrong place to ask questions so forgive me, but I just  got a cat after not having one for 7 years and I have a few questions since I am rusty. So far I have everything we need like a covered liter box, food, pink :) food dish, but I want to get her some other little things. I was living back home (in the states) before so things were easy to get. Here they just have a few selections and it's expensive so I will buy things online. Is anything recommended for hairballs? What about teeth? I remember these green treats my other cats used to love back home. I bought a bag of kitty food (hard) for her that seemed like the best. Maybe she is just not a pig, but it seems like she hardly eats. My other cats ate all the time it seemed and anything they could get.

She is a 3 month old shirazi for a little background. I brush her daily and I feel like bc of her hair I need to get something to keep hairballs under control. Is there anything else I should get? She sleeps with me so I doubt a bed would do her much good. Thank you and I love it here.

I've got longhaired cats and I don't actually give them anything for hair balls. I think as long as you brush and comb them often enough especially when moulting they should be fine. My cats don't suffer with hair balls only very very occasionally.

As for dry food cleaning teeth this is a complete myth. If you ate some cookies would your teeth feel clean ? No you would have bits of cookie stuck to your teeth.

Back to the grooming you must use a comb on longhaired breeds. Brushes are of little use all they do is fluff the top of the coat up. They don't get to the underneath hair by the skin where all the dead lose hair is trapped. A metal moulting comb is best the ones with long and short pins.

There are lots of good tips in the "feline diet" section of this site, whatever it is called.  A raw food diet, or partially raw food diet, helps keep teeth clean.  Also, egg yolk is supposed to be really good for preventing hairballs too.  As for the dishes you have, be sure NOT to use plastic dishes.  Use glass or ceramic.  Don't store food in plastic containers either.  Most plastics give off chemicals that can cause feline acne and also things that mimic hormones etc.  Just don't use plastic for anything she eats or drinks and you will be safe.

Oh no I do use plastic, I will change that asap. As for the teeth I know that the hard food does not clean teeth, but I used to buy some green treats that said they were for that. Maybe they did not work though who knows? I will get the comb like you said bc I am using just a brush and I can see you're right about getting to the dead skin. If you can think of anything else I may need let me know.. What is a raw diet? I am just feeding her dry food bc I know the wet gives the wet stool and that and long hair does not mix ugh..
