Greetings from Sunnyvale, California! I just joined after lurking for months. My husband is a neurosurgeon and I volunteer at my local Humane Society on weekends (Weekdays are of course exclusively devoted to opening cans, scooping poop, and brushing/cuddling sessions.) I currently serve six (adopted) very spoiled cats that come from all ends of the world and I foster dogs from time to time (I used to foster cats a long time ago, but then I realized that every single cat I fostered I ended up adopting… so I just adopted directly instead.)

My cats are probably the hottest topic in our entire house and have been for about ten years. We have two rooms completely devoted to them (the nursery, which has beds, cat trees, litter boxes, food bowls, toys, random collected items- and the sun room, which is just an empty room with a carpet and a lot of windows. Enough said.) and they basically own our master bedroom. We also are in the process of constructing a catio, which was inspired by a wonderful thread on this forum.

I’ve already learned a great deal of useful information here and hope to begin contributing soon.

Welcome, GCat,  former lurker.  Glad you are here!  My cousin has a pet-sitting service in California so I realize it's quite early in your time zone, while it's time for bed in mine.  But I have 10 litter boxes to dig and probably some dishes to fill and one medication to give (will dissolve the pill and mix it with cream and it will go down fine.  There is no way on earth this particular cat would take a pill unless yuo threw it as hard as a baseball into his mouth when he was hissing at you.  No problem squiting some clavamox and cream into his mouth, however.  Your cat house sounds wonderful!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes. allenkm, I was afraid that if I posted pictures, my thread would go on forever.View media item 201941

Wallace and Gromit are the comedians of the house. I adopted them as littermates and they have been literally unseparable ever since- they are 5 years old and they love to hunt each other. In this pic Gromit is thinking "Don't you dare leave this bed without me, I'm blocking your paw!"
This is Baloo (5 years old). He is the independent thinker, yet such a sweetheart. He and Gracie love to groom each other. Must be a black cat thing.

This is Miss Bunny Rose (1 year old). She is the bed warmer and she loves to explore- most of the time, she’s in some dark closet and I can only find her because of her bright coloring. Once DH and I were looking for her and DH saw a swipe of an orange and white tail turning a corner. He said, “That’s our little adventurer for sure!”
And last but not least is Pippi (named after Pippi Longstocking). She was given to us recently by a friend who fell into hard times financially and has adjusted well to the environment and the other cats. She tries to share a bed with Wallace and Gromit but those two boys can be quite boisterous and always end up pushing her off somehow. Poor Pippi.
Those are my six little loves.
Apologies for the long post and I look forward to contributing and learning from other members.
