Hi ...I need some advice...My cat was dewormed a month back. Last week I bought thrive chicken flavor for her and she loved it. I was giving her only small amounts and I noticed whenever I did, her poop was smelly. Yesterday I gave her whtever was left at the bottom of the tube which was not much but more than what I usually give her. Last night she cried in her litter box and was straining before she pooped. It was black and liquidy. She did the same this morning. She is her usual active self and is on a raw diet. Yes she is eating well. I am worried because of her poop :(

Answering my own question:

And now I know why my cat's stomach is upset, even though I feed her only meat....
A cat food can be labeled “grain-free” yet still contain a high level of carbohydrates. Whether that starch comes from corn (a grain) or soy or peas (legumes), it increases the carbohydrate content of the food. Some pet food companies increase their profit margin by riding the “grain-free” marketing wave without actually providing a food that is carnivore-appropriate.

Regardless of what she's eating, black stools are a concern and could indicate internal bleeding. I would definitely phone the vet.

I agree with GoHolistic about calling the vet. Black stool indicates digested blood from internal bleeding. Carbs alone will not turn poop black, so it sounds like something else may be going on with your cat.

Oh, good :) I hope the visit goes well and please let us know what the vet says. It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially with this particular symptom. It is one of the things for which a vet visit is always warranted. Sending you and you kitty positive vibes for a good, healthy visit.:vibes::vibes::vibes:

Good luck with your visit to the vet and I hope it's something minor and easily fixed. Will you come on and let us know as soon as you know anything? I will be thinking about you :vibes:
