I have a few feral colonies I take care of and feed on a daily basis. For the last few days we have been hit by snow and have accrued about 7" of snow. Highly unusual for us here in Portland. I still continue to leave food in their food areas and have tried to protect those areas. My problem is however, they are unaccustomed to this and I am worried about their shelter. I have built a couple of shelters but it does not appear they are using them. I'm concerned for their safety. They will come out when it is time to eat but in this weather they have not. It's been 17 degrees outside. My question is, will they seek shelter out and stay there? I know they can go a few days without food, but shelter?

Even in less harsh weather, most feral cats locate shelter for themselves.  Hopefully, they have hunkered down and will make it through OK.  It may take them awhile to recognize the shelters your built as acceptable places to sleep.  Give them time.

Thank you for helping them!
