I'm mostly asking out of curiosity because DH and I want to change things up in our living room.

We I purchased a new couch recently; a medium size sectional.  We had a full size couch, love seat and chair in the living room for seating. Now all we have is the sectional.  We've rearranged where the TV is and our kids have a corner dedicated to toys and another to books.  It's looking like we have a LOT more floor space in there!  I'm really pleased!

The only thing we haven't fully agreed on is how many lamps to keep in the room.  We had 2 floor lamps that are mainly used.  We also have a small, accent lamp that is pretty dim so we use it later in the evening only.  We almost never use the light on the ceiling fan.  DH wanted too get rid of one of the floor lamps (they get knocked over from time to time...).  I think it's too dark that way.  We had to remove our end tables and coffee table a while back because I worried too much about our kids (toddles) falling into the pointy edges.  So the lamps are pretty exposed to the kid's movement and curiosity.  One is hard to turn on and of thanks to too many falls; but it works.  These are cheap lamps we got for $5 from Walmart years ago.  But they have worked great for us!  We had 3 at one time but the base of it fell apart so we got rid of it.  The lamp itself worked fine.

How many lamps do you keep on in your home?  Floor, table or ceiling?  Is it bright enough for you to read or fold laundry by comfortably?  I'd love recessed lights on a dimmer; but that's a bigger project than I've got time for right now!

We have a ceiling lamp with three energy-saving bulbs - you can turn on one, two or all three - plus one floor lamp placed between the ends of both sofas. That gives us plenty of light for just about anything, including reading. Generally the reading lamp plus one overhead light are on in the evening.

We have a ceiling lamp in the foyer and that's it. The last time we had a lamp on a stand in the living room, the cats knocked it to the floor and killed it. So no more lamps. I like to flop on the couch with a book, but can only really read during the day. At night I go back to the bedroom to read.

The ceiling fan/lamp in the dining room has carry over light to the living room, so it's not too bad.

We have a floor lamp and two desk lamps in the computer room. And we have a floor lamp and three stand lamps in the bedroom. The cats have not knocked those lamps to the floor yet.

I have a ceiling light, and an LED reading lamp over my couch. I don't use it often as my ceiling light is bright enough

I also have a galley kitchen light and a hall light that shines right into my living room. The joys of having a small apartment

My living room is a little odd as it used to be two small rooms that the previous owners opened up. In one half we have a ceiling light and a small accent lamp. We don't really use that side much. On the other side we have a floor lamp at one end of the sectional and a table lap at the other end.

I have a halogen floor lamp in the corner, but rarely use it. I can't remember the last time it was turned on.

I don't have end tables, so there is really no room for smaller lamps.

In my bedroom I have a lamp on each bedside table.

Maybe a sconce or two would work - they don't get knocked over or take up any floor or table space.

In the living room (small house) we have a floor lamp that has a 3-way switch so it can be pretty bright, and we have a small dim lamp on a shelf that we put on when watching movies. It was so nice having the extra light from the Christmas tree so now I'm thinking of adding a sconce by the fireplace.

I have three lamps(two floor and one desk). I'm semi shopping around for a third lamp. I recently threw away a cheap dask lamp I had because it gave off an awful smell of body odor. I tried putting up with it but l just couldn't even though it kind of made me laugh. It's a common problem with cheap lamps, according to Google.I called it the B O lamp.

Our living room is big and high ceilings. We have two ceiling fans with five 40 watt bulbs each. Then we have two floor lamps. One is beside my rocker recliner and one is next to the double recliner where he sits. There is a decent sized lamp on a library table behind the sofa. Then there is a smaller lamp on a table in the corner. Most of the time the only light on is the one where he sits. I like it to be dim if we are watching TV. If I am reading then I turn on my lamp. The overheads only are used if we really are looking at something that we need a lot of light. We have lived in the house eleven years and they are the same ten bulbs that were put there when the house was built.:lol3:
Oh, and over in one corner is a six foot ficus tree that has a strand of 100 lights on it. Most of the time they are on at night because it seems special to have them on. I also have an overhead shelf which is built as part of on wall. There is a strand of small light run along the back there and the stay on quite a bit. So while we have a lot of lights, we use very few of them when we are sitting in that room at night.

I have 2 ceiling lights.
You could get an oval table with no corners.

Oooh I love sconces on fire places!  I wish we had one!  My only issue with those is that I'd have a hard time rearranging furniture depending where they go.  I'll have to think on that!

I guess we have an average amount of lighting based on what everyone has said.  I'm hoping to bring the end tables back in eventually.  I really like the ones we picked out.  DH wants to sell them and the coffee table and buy some others in a few years.  I wanted ones with storage. The end tables have little drawers that are great for remotes and things.  The coffee table has 2 big drawers; but it's really a more bulky piece than I intended when we got it.  They are great for magazines and things.  We had cat toys in there for a while too. lol  Right now I'm using one of the end tables like a night table in DS's room too.  I hate to buy again when we've already spent money on them.  They are only 3 years old I think.  Maybe 3 1/2.
