Hi everyone

This is one week that I have taken the 3 adult cats mostly off grain free  dry food

because of Peebos being overweight..

My cats seem to want to eat 4 times a day but they do not eat much canned if you did feed them

they seem to be munchers as they always did on the dry food..any of yours that way

I fed them at 7 am..I opened 3 ..5.5 ounces of Friskies  food for them

I spooned out more for Peebo and half can for Leo who is 10lb and half can for Bro who is 16 lbs

They did not clean their plates and had not eaten  since 7 the previous night.

Today I gave them a little dry..2 tablespoons at lunch they ate that..and liked it,

At 4 pm I spooned out  half can to each cat and they did not clean their plates..

They do not eat a lot and they did not eat a tremendous amount of grain free simply nourishing

dry food in the  past ..before I started feeding canned food this week..

I know I was told to not let Peebo lose too much too fast, but they are not eating the 5.,5 ounces

per cat a day divided up ..in two meals..

They lay around a lot..the older two they are sedentary and always were

The youngest ate some of his food 3 tables spoons and was happy with it just now

and now he is under tree hunting..he rather hunt...and is active at 3 y ears old and slender too.

Any thoughts and do you have cats who do not eat 5.5 ounces a  day per cat of canned food?

Any other ideas about  feeding them 3 times a day when I am home in the daytime?

They have always been small eaters and like to eat more often ..snacking..than a large amount put down at 2 times during the day..

I can not put down canned food and leave it ..Peebo will eat theirs and they would not have any

canned food..same way with dry food..and he is the one that weighed 22 lbs at the vets

in December..

thanks SheriT

I guess I didn't realize that they weren't already on a schedule when you asked about canned food in your other thread.  Here is a thread that talks about how to get cats off free feeding and onto a schedule:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/transitioning-free-fed-kibble-kitties-to-timed-meals

And then here is a thread that talks about how to actually change the type of food they are eating (changing from kibble to canned, or to whatever):  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/transit...-to-a-new-type-of-food-canned-raw-or-homemade

Start by reading those two, and then if you have questions, come back with them.  I still need to answer a couple of your questions on your other thread, but have been out most of the day today and will answer them in the morning (morning MY time
...not sure what time zone you're in)

Update on Peebo,

my 23 and half pound cat

he has lost 1/2 pound..

I think that is safe and would

not go any further on weight loss

than that amount in a   month or 6 weeks..

He is getting Fancy feast and Meow Mix

chicken canned...one third of the small cans

3 times a day

and one half of a  cup of

Simply nourishing turkey dry food

daily..

and all the cats

want to eat 3 small meals a day..

Bro has lost some weight , small amount

also he is  perfect weight..about 15 lbs

for a 7 year old male neutered inside outside cat

maybe should be ll pounds but I think he looks

good..

Leo is hungry and wants more food..he is ll pounds and 3 and half years old..

It is getting easier..not quite relaxed yet..with the new  transition

from all no corn good quality dry food...to more canned food with some

high quality no corn dry food along with the canned food...

3 small  meals a day..per cat..

Will keep going at this routine unless I see something that does not seem to be

good...any comments are always appreciated..from you all..

Thanks

Great update.   Just a couple of comments.  Are you weighing Leo?  I ask because you said he is hungry.  Is he losing weight?  If so, you may need to increase his food intake.  At 3 1/2 years of age, he might still be very active...one of my 5 year olds is still swinging from the chandelier
, especially since he (Leo) is allowed outside.  Just because he weighs less doesn't mean he doesn't need to eat MORE than Peebo, even though Peebo is twice his weight.   Did I ever send you this link?  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-much-food-should-i-feed-my-cat

Other comment:  If Bro weighs 15 lbs and you think he should probably weigh 11 lbs, why do you think he's the perfect weight?  He may LOOK good, as in cuddly, etc. but would still be at  risk for diabetes, etc.  Just my two cents.

How long did it take to get your cats to eat more per meal? Or have they? When do they get their dry food? I am having trouble getting my cats on a schedule. 7 of them. they eat about 1/8 cup dry per fedding twice  a day and 1 ounce of canned(2 for the kitten). They were so hungry this morning and some threw up. i think I need to give them either canned at night. Hoping it doesnt make them so hungry by morning. Or leave a feeder out for some dry to eat.

Hi there

I think I would feed your  cat wet canned at breakfast such as one half  can of

Fancy Feast ..mine like the classic variety..chicken flavors..they do not like the turkey

ones...by Fancy Feast......they do like the  grilled chicken ones..by Fancy Feast.

then a  half cup of dry at noon

buy a dry that has no corn in it..

I use Simply nourishing by Pet smart

they do like the turkey one by them

and will eat chicken flavored...

and night about 7 pm the rest of the can of  wet food...

They get really irritable if they do not get some thing to eat at night....

before bedtime... long time till morning eating time.

I am going to visibly try to see that each cat gets l and one fourth to one and one half

for the big 23 and half pound cat ..of wet and dry total amount each day..

I hear on here that an adult cat gets 5.5 ounces per day of canned or wet and canned

totaled..you can go to 6.5 ounces

With my husband who will feed them every time they meow   no matter how I plead

I am stressed with him doing it..

I will  add more food today for  the two  cats that weigh more of  a  normal weight and keep the one losing  weight named Peebo

on a cup and a fourth total of wet and dry a day..

I just judge it visually..

the litte one Leo is more active hunting ...so he does need to eat more than the  large cat that needs to lose at 23 pounds..

The middle cat does not need to lose..he is not big or heavy at all at 14 or 15 pounds.....

I pick them up and I can tell who  is losing and who feels okay..,

had these cats for years..

anyway I am doing okay it seems to have to deal with 3 cats at different ages and weights

and a husband who literally does what he wants for decades..and is going to ...

I am not an expert and do not have scales the proper ones and can not afford the best   no or low

carb canned foods...but my cats are better treated than any I have met..unless the cats

belong to those on the cat site..which those get the best everyone can afford..

That is why I joined..we all love our Cats!!!!!!!!!

Forgot to say that kitten needs 3 small meals a day and time to eat

cats get nervous around others eating..they will get anxious like

someone or the other cat will eat theirs up and they will get none

I feel for you

7 cats to feed is stressful and expensive..

My heart  goes out to you..

just posted and it was to you but since many do not put their first name

I just can  not remember in replying what their on screen names are

so I use Sheri T..easier to remember when posting,,.

Thanks sheri. Ya the kitten isnt a problem. He eats good at all 3 feedings. But i do have a couple that are more skidish. If they get scared while eating I cannot get them back to finish.  Though this morning it seems that scheduled feeding is causing anxiety. They need to hurry and eat, instead of at their own pace. When they want. Seperating was worse. they all wanted to know what the others had, what they were doing. LOL eating in the same pace was better. But they seem to eat in a hurry. I disgaree when they say cats need to be hungry. I think they eat to fast when they are. causing upset tummys(in some anyway).

I feed them the last feeding at 10;30 or 11 at night. Then at about 7:15 in the am. Last night i even threw in a feeding at 8:30 then at 11pm. They were so hungry by 7:15am.

They were on Nutrisource all there life. Until Zane came in and couldnt eat it. Switched to Pure Vita grain free. Which is 484 calories per cup. I think mittens is the only one overweight. She is the heaviest with the smallest frame. She weighs 16 pounds. Mama cat is the smallest at 9 pounds.

I was typing you a reply and I think it dissapeared!

Your cat food sounds great , thanks for sharing

I looked at the good reviews on it

We due to    the pricing have to stay with something

like Simply nourishing from Pet smart made by them

corn free...but good protein..and they do like it a lot..

I wish we could buy the one you use..and also their canned food..

If anyone else finds a good dry food..from Pet smart let us know

I  can not afford Wilderness ..we have tried the Blue brand

and some others..that are less expensive in dry..

I wish there were more totally grain free dry and canned foods

that were less expensive..

I appreciate your sharing..and I might feed my cats

a little before 9 pm a snack of dry ..to keep them

quieter till 7 am when they get breakfast..

because of your doing that ...and telling me..
