I went to pick up our second kitty yesterday and she ran away during the exchange. We searched and called until it got too dark, but no luck.

My family is really sad about coming home empty handed. The lady we have been adopting from has a couple more kittens from the same litter (as our first kitty and the one than ran away).

Is it too soon to ask for one of the other kittens? The owner told us that she can't keep them, so I know she is still looking for homes. And we really want two. But I'm worried that I will seem callous to inquire about another kitten.

Of course, it was nobody's fault...but I'm worried she will blame us for the other kitten getting lost and not want to adopt out to us again. :(

*sigh* I am just so sad. Sad for the lost kitten. Sad for the original owner that only wants the best for the kittens. Sad for our family not getting to bring home another cat.

It may be a little early to give up on the lost kitten, go back and keep looking, post fliers, get on the radio. Next time make sure you have a carrier that the kitten can be put into, then there is no way for it to get lost. Good luck and keep us posted!

We left food and there were some bins of hay in the area (someone caring for ferals, I'm assuming) and we will check back as often as we can. But the area is a 30 min drive away from my house, so it is hard to check back very often.

We did have a crate. She spooked during the exchange and clawed her way out of the crate while we were trying to get the door closed. (Both the original owner and I are covered in scratches acquired while trying to keep ahold of her!)

Can you call the original owner to find out if she has been seen?

We've been in contact with the original owner. Shelters and local businesses have been informed and given pictures. And a blanket with the scent of home will be placed in the area today. But the exchange was in a central location (about 30 minute drive from both my house and the original owner's house).

I feel terrible about the whole thing. :( If we haven't found her by Tuesday, we will be giving a home to one of the other kittens from the litter.
