I would like to know what the chewable treat things are? Is that your thyroid medication or just treats? My 12 yr old cat Bear has hyperthyroidism and oh me oh my what I have gone thru. He started his life having to have a Perineal Urethrostomy. Oh me, that was at another vet when I lived in another city(another vet who I had issues with him and his practice), and he led me to believe my cat would be on meds all his life or injections. But we climbed that mountain and he did well til last yr with this hyperthyroidism.  His levels were above 8 and now like the other cat meowmy(love that) I have dealt with vets that just prescribe meds and really should have sent me on to a specialist from day 1. His levels dropped to the same as the other writer..... like  .3  .....They had him on too much...like 5mg 2x a day. He is now back down to 2.5 2x a day and has not been checked to see his levels again(we will go next week to see). We have been on a roller coaster. At first (6 mos ago)I started him on a holistic medication as I had read such bad stuff on the methiamizole. And at first his hair grew back and he held his weight and no constipation. Then like 5  months in to that, he just stopped eating and lost like 4 lbs ...poof gone. So back in to the vet and he was vomiting, dehydrated, constipated, and  T levels unchanged. Other than thyroid all his blood levels and xrays looked good. He has the most beautiful xrays I have ever seen.

I cracked the vet up when I said his xrays are so beautiful. Then my daughter says its cause he ain't got nothing in him.

Anyways so then we go back n forth getting fluids and trying this n that, all the while him not still not eating and getting constipated and dehydrated. How a cat could live without eating as long as him was beyond me. So after a month of this nightmare I got him in at a specialty vet and we have lowered his methiamizole, but he is still getting constipated. He is also on Prednisolone and an appetite stimulant(not daily, only if I feel he has not eaten enough that day). This new vet wants to do exploratory surgery on him to see if he has lymphoma or just IBD. However, I cannot afford them to open him up and him just die on the table. I had to take him in to the original vet again for fluids last week as .....lets see he was constipated, so the new vet puts him on Miralax and well that just made him sick , he was vomiting and pooping everywhere, and in that i mean just a diarrhea here and a diarrhea there......OMG. I was to the point of just putting him down. This vet tells me that in his knowledge of this disease in cats that if they do have the IBD that it will turn in to lymphoma eventually.

I tell Bear every day he is the most spoiled cat. He gets massages and brushed(what little of him there is) like 2 - 3 times a day. My other cats are so jealous. He is now like 10 lbs and he is normally like 16 - 18. He will not eat the grain free food that I had him on in the beginning and he loved it. Now he wants the expensive canned tuna cat food only and at that he does not eat the food, he licks it, so I have to make a slurry. He will eat a treat every now and then. As well he likes just the Purina weight control dry food. I hate to give that to him as his stools when he does produce them are so dry and hard. But I have to give him what he will eat. I mean I have tried every cat food and have opened every type of canned food for him to try. I mean at one point I had like 6 bowls of different dry food for him to pick from. Right now the abdomen massages seem to be the only thing helping with the constipation.

Well any input or information or help or ideas are welcomed. Thanks for reading and I wish others, with babies with these complications, strength and courage and hope and love to be able to care for their babies.

So after reading this, it seems after AbbysMom answered the question on the chewable form, your main issue is how to help with constipation for a cat who will only eat Purina Weight Control Dry?  But he DOES like the high priced tuna cat food if you  make it into a slurry?  That slurry is actually just what he needs, because it's water, water, water that would help with the constipation.  That dried food, particularly the Weight Control stuff, is probably what is causing his issues in the first place.  It's notorius for causing constipation
.  If possible, I would continue looking for ANY canned foods you can to try to get him to eat something other than that dry food.  Even Fancy Feast CLASSICS are better*  You could even try crushing some of his beloved kibble and mixing it into some canned at first to encourage him to eat the canned food.  A lot of us have used "toppers" to convert our over to canned.  You can ever use parmesan cheese (yes the one in the green can!)   One of mine only likes pates, so I take any canned food she seems to have any interest in and toss it into my Magic Bullet with extra water and MAKE it into a pate slurry.  For constipation, canned plain pumpkin is always good too.  Usually people mix in up to one tablespoon per day into their CANNED food
.  Some cats love it, some don't.  Mine don't.

I have used Miralax in the past with wonderful results.  Your bad results sound like maybe you were just giving too much.  We started out giving 1/8 teas...how much were you giving?  It is true that if you give too much, they will start to have "involuntary pooping".

Does he drink much?  If nothing else, can you add a little tuna water to his drinking water?  You could try putting a can of tunafish in about 3 cups of water and let it sit for a few hours.  Drain that water off and pour it into an ice cube tray.  Once it's frozen, put the individual ice cubes into a ziploc bag and store in your freezer and take one out everyday when you change your cats' water.  Add one to their bowl to encourage drinking.  Here is an article on more tips to get cats to drink more water:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/tips-to-increase-your-cat-s-water-intake

*I preface this entire thing NOT knowing anything about Hyper-T though, so if you have been told to avoid some specific foods based on that, go with what your Vet has said.
