My poor kitty has been sick and seen by a vet. To save her stress and money I shall ask for advice here and see what my next step is :). To make a long story short... her anal glands were full and her poo was stinky! The vet cleaned her glands and gave some meds to help with her stomach. The next day she was leaking poo and her bum clearly hurt. The vet did a shave off her bum (hehe) and gave her a shot for the pain. Told to continue meds for a few more days but to call if anything gets worse. My question! The poor cat had dried poo on her bum and lady parts. Anytime i go near the area to gently clean she cries even with just a soft pat. Is there any thing i can do to clean the poo that is gentle because I know leaving it there will hurt just as bad. Or should I call the vet and take her in again? I don't know what they can do to clean it? I do know he said to call if it still hurts and he would give me some cream for it... But the area has to be clean first and that's the part I need help with!

OK so that wasn't too short but hey thanks for reading and for any help!!!

wow. i have a kitty with "dirty bottom issues" but not similar to yours. She's just lazy.

but maybe you can try some of the stuff i try to help her:

1) use gentle pet wipes to wipe down the bottom area and leave kitty alone

2) reward her with treats after each wipe down

3) DO NOT approach her as soon as she comes out of the litter box to wipe her down! this will scare her, and she will be apprehensive of using the litter box. let her use the box, and then walk around for a min, let her forget what she just did, then approach her.

4) when you catch her trying to groom herself back there, try to praise her and give her treats (this helped to make my lazy kitty think grooming is fun)

you might have to take her to the vet because your kitty has issues with her anal gland...maybe you can ask the vet to show you how to expel her glands??? you can do it at home if you're not squeamish, that would save you money...i know lots of pet owners who do this, with their dogs and cats...

Haha no no I am not going to clean those glands myself!  I don't mind taking her to the vet for that as it happens rarely. I just need some advice on her bum area while she gets better.  She is not lazy... she is too fat :(  She wants to clean it but can't.  Actually this whole mess started back early last year when I tried to give her some wet food to help her lose weight.  It worked for a while, then her stubbornness kicked in, and it all went downhill.  At least my vet is trying to get to the bottom (no pun intended) of why her poos stink so bad, why she won't eat certain foods, and why is poo is more times than not, a little runny.  Her bum is actually usually quite clean, but I think because of the pain of the area and it just kind of leaking (actually that has stopped the meds are working!!) she is having a hard time helping herself.

I did use some wipes this morning, and the treat method, which is rare for her to get treats since she is too fat.  She seemed to forget quite fast that I just put her in an embarrassing position and took care of her bum haha.  So thank you for that!!!  She also did not cry as soon as I got down there, so I am hoping that her bum is starting to feel better as well.  :)

I really never thought when I got my kitty I would be having soooo many conversations and concern with her bum haha

wow thats a lot of factors to consider for your kitty. I really hope you, and the vet can get the to root cause of all your kitties issues and are able to figure out a game plan to get her back to good health.

Since she is over weight just be mindful about the treats, although most treats are about 2 cals give or take per treat...so to be able to help clean her, i don't think treats would do her THAT much harm :)

Haha yes, I never thought I would get so up close and personal with my kittys bum.  Also what a great first impression on a new vet;  hi here is my cat, here is her bum, treat it!
