Suggestions for Addition to Food Rotation?

This is a long shot, but this forum has been so helpful in feeding Dandy, our 7-mo. old kitten. It has been so strange - when a food doesn't sit well with her, she doesn't throw up or get diarrhea, she has just become very lethargic.  It went on for quite awhile and I think that is partly why she got so big.  She just didn't move.  When she gets food that "works," she does all the things you'd expect a 7-mo. old kitten to do.  She knocks things down, ambushes me, gets the crazies, etc.

Right now she is really liking NVI canned food.  She is doing fairly well on Wellness Beef & Chicken and also FF Classics. She is also still eating her Wellness Kitten Formula, which is a go-to when she's still hungry or after trying something new.  I still have 3 flavors of Hound & Gatos to try, but we've gone through 3 kinds and I'm beginning to think there's something in the brand that doesn't agree with her.  I'll try the rabbit next.

I simply can't afford to feed all NVI, even if I get the big dog food cans.  We are in a rural area and just have Petco.  Is there anything else that might work out in her rotation?  I almost ordered a case of Evo to try but then I read about the high fat and she is a pretty big cat.  I've run out of ideas and have no idea what's so special about NVI except the price.  She even eats those peas.

Thanks for any suggestions.  (Weruva  didn't work out.)

When I go to Petco, I buy my finicky cat Soulistic in the gravy flavors. His favorite is Good Karma Chicken in gravy. It's grain free and in the gravy flavors, no carrageenan either. Check out the ingredients. Petco advertises it by the case, but you can purchase it in individual cans for a "taste test" on your cat.

A 5.5 ounce can of Soulistic at Petco costs $1.49 so it's much cheaper than NVI.I think a 3 ounce can sells for ($.99). Soulistic is sold by Petco exclusively and can't be purchased any where else.

Thank you for the response.  Isn't that the brand I've seen compared to Weruva though?  I don't know what it is about Weruva but something in it doesn't seem to sit too well with her.  I think it may be the gravy.  I gave her some last night and although she loves it, she smells funky and it doesn't really seem to agree with her.  I'll check the ingredients against Weruva's though. (Gravy in FF was a small issue too.)

Yes, H&G Rabbit today.  She ate a small portion under protest and would not touch any more.  I think most things are cheaper than NVI :)  If I bought something that cost more, she'd probably really take to it. Okay, she does pretty well on some of the FF.

Edit:  I see that the Soulistic has tapioca starch.  Weruva has potato starch and the FF Grilled has corn starch so I guess she hasn't had tapioca starch yet.  We could try a can.  It's not that she doesn't like Weruva but it doesn't seem to agree with her very well. Petco is a ways away so it will be awhile before I get there.  I guess I could feed Tiki Cat but I really don't feel it's worth the cost.

We tried the Hound & Gatos Rabbit today.  She didn't want to touch it at first, but finally ate the initial amount and fussed for more food.  My husband put more out and she wouldn't touch it.  He eventually gave her 1/2 a can of Weruva which I'd opened last night. Maybe it's the texture or something?

Petco also sells Sheba and my cat likes Sheba in the cuts with gravy. I think it sells for $.79 for a 3 ounce can. Try a can of chicken flavored cuts in gravy and see if your cat likes it.

If your cat likes Sheba chicken, Petsmart also sells Sheba, but they normally sell it for $.59 for a 3 ounce can and when Petsmart has a sale, you can get it for $.50 for a 3 ounce can.

Since you don't have a Petsmart near you, you can buy it by the case and have it shipped to your house.

Thank you. I was just thinking maybe Sheba. Walmart used to carry it but some folks said theirs had dropped it and I haven't checked. I'd prefer to avoid the gravy, to be honest, but I think it has pates.

I have 5 fussy senior cats, and getting them to agree on any wet food (even Fancy Feast) is near impossible. But they all adore Evo. It is high in fat content as you say so it may not be an answer for you. But my fussy seniors love the chicken/turkey, they adore the beef and the duck just got a universal paws-up from the gang. This is almost unbelievable success for a wet food in my house. If Evo was in the rotation, could you just limit quite how often you feed it but have it in the mix?

I happened to get to a Walmart today and got a couple of cans of Sheba.  They still had it but afterward I thought that maybe they were going to drop it because there wasn't much and it was really crowded into a small space.  I'd only looked at it once months ago in a different Walmart, but I thought they had a much larger display.  I'll see what another one has and how this turns out.  I also picked up 2 more  flavors of Wellness at Tractor Supply. They seem to have a limited amount. It's turkey and chicken - not much of a variety.

Yes, I could feed Evo just occasionally if she likes it. I may try it yet.  Now something made her stool a little soft but yesterday she had that little bit of H&G Rabbit, half a can of Weruva and NVI Beef. I tend to think it's either the Rabbit or the Weruva but who knows?  Today, I put out her Wellness Kitten for the starving cat.  She looked at it and wouldn't eat it.  After a bit I finally said if she isn't going to eat it, I might as well put it away. She was playing in the living room (2 rooms away) and came immediately and ate most of the food.  Now how does she do that??

Thanks for the responses.  I am holding off a bit on ordering more because I want to be sure of the NVI flavors before investing in the dog food size can case.  That's when I would order Evo too.
