We moved around  from apartment to apartment over the past few years and our cat never had any adjustment issues. He is now 4 and we moved into a house about a month ago and he is still not adjusted. He hardly eats because his food bowl is on a table to keep the dog out of it, and its the same table he had at the apartment.  When we finishes eating he sits on the edge of the table and just stairs at the floor for about 30 minutes before finally jumping down and he walks real slow and carefully back to his favorite spot in the closet. We have been noticing if we pick him up and put him on the bed he acts afraid to jump down off the bed and will stay on the bed for hours. Last night he got the the point to where he peed in our bed and still didn't jump down, after the smell woke me up he was just still on the edge trying to figure a way down when I tried to pick him up he just grabbed onto the bed and was afraid of the floor.

So what do you think is going on?

Did the new house make our cat all of a sudden afraid of jumping? or is it just that he is deeply afraid of the new place in general?

We really would like our old cat back that enjoys spending time with us.

To me it sounds like there could be some pain going on somewhere which is making him not want to jump, and he's associating jumping with pain.  Have you had him checked out by a vet?  I'd recommend that with possible xrays to check for back or leg problems.

House is mostly tile but he never did mind the little bit of tile in the apartment and where the bed is (
where he peed) is carpet.

I agree, I think a trip to the vet is a good idea - sounds like he may be in pain. Does he shake his head at all, bump into things or walk slightly at an angle - veering off? Just wondering if your cat is dizzy or has an inner ear infection. Dizzy will make a cat scared to jump too and walk gingerly.  I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. And is it worth keeping the dog away from the food while he's eating at feed him at ground level? I'd keep him away from having to jump until you can figure out whats going on, just in case it is painful, seems kinder.  Best of luck to you all..
