I have a 2 1/2 year old male tabby cat which I adopted from the local SPCA. The friendliest cat ever, he's always been so full of life, gorgeous big coat and fat! Since January we've noticed that the cat has dramatically been losing weight and losing his hair in places, at first we put it down to hunting and breeding season( as my cat goes outside at night) and there is a lot of other stray cats around the area we presumed he might have been getting in some fights. But now we are worried as the weight decrease is to much. Has anybody else seen this in their cats or can you give me any information? I've brought him to the vet yesterday and the vet took bloods for fiv :-( I really hope it's not

Hiya, sorry your boy is poorly.. no, never encountered this, so can't help much. Just wanted to say, keeping fingers crossed that it's not FIV. Is the vet doing a whole blood panel, not just FIV? I would've thought that would be worth it to check for any other illnesses such as worms, fleas, thyroid issues (tho rare in a youngster), allergies, well a few things, if you catch my drift.
Oh, just a thought, is your cat neutered? It stops a lot of the fighting, esp with the breeding season and the added bonus of you're stopping a whole lot more unwanted kittens! I think its healthier all round too for your boy not to mention less fighting means he's in contact a whole lot less with stray cats who may carry all sorts of diseases.   Good luck to your cat.
