My bf woke me this morn worried about preg stray Susie that we took in 2 weeks ago, he said she was making coughing noises behind the tv, all my other cats been sniffing were she sat, I've made her room up away from cats with food drink and bed and she also had her fav chair in there. She now asleep and fine. Was she having false alarm?

Is it possible she was just removing a hairball or something? It is not usual for cats in labor to sound like they were coughing, no. Usually symptoms might include a discharge, increase in breathing rate, persistent licking of the stomach/vagina, and total loss of interest in food. The cat may yowl and pace.  Eventually she will start to intermittently squat and press down trying to expel the klttens.

In short, what you've described doesn't sound like labor or a false alarm to me.  It is good you have her isolated in a  room though, as this is good to do before labor begins.  Does she have nesting materials in there? Usually a cat will start to nest some days before delivery.

She very restless, no nesting but moving from her chair to birthing box to blanket on floor. She has sat on my lap in my bedroom and Ben pulling my trousers with her claws. She hasn't had any discharge, my partner said defo not a hairball, haven't felt any movement since 11am. Other than that she seems happy and purring

They do sometimes lick up the discharge quickly so it can be easy to miss it.  However, I am going to stick with my original impression that she probably isn't in labor for now, though it sounds like her time may be quite soon! Just keep monitoring her, which it sounds like you are on top of!

they can also have some preconctractions, but which isnt real labor.

I agree, a cough (which you mentioned in the PM to me) isnt by itself a sign for labor.

I though some sound of pain was interpreted as cough.

coughing up hairs or similiar is more common.

the waiting time!    :(

Good luck!

Hehe ahhh I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd have ALL the cats if I didn't have a partner and 3 children lol. I'm thinking the same with Molly, I reckon she is going to have 4 but I'm no expert. She looks huge but she is normally a very small cat so not sure. She is walking from one end of the house to the next meowing and just woke me up AGAIN! It's 5am. Hoping today is the day :)
