Hey everyone. This is my first post here but am a longtime lurker. This might be a long post but please bear with me.

Our cat, Ki, began feeling a little ill on Friday. I came home from work to find some small puddles of puke (2 with food, 2 without). I didn't think too much of it and began getting his dinner (Innova adult wet food). He acted normal, which means he acted insanely excited. But when I went to pick up his bowl, I saw he left a couple of nibbles, which is unlike him.

Saturday, he was fine. Ate everything, acted like his ornery self.

Sunday morning he was fine, ate everything, acted like his ornery self. But then, he didn't touch his dinner, even though he acted excited about it. My wife and I got him to eat about 1/4 of it, but he ate slowly.

So, we checked him over. We applied pressure on various parts of his body and he didn't respond with agitation or like he was pained. We even checked his mouth and all looked well.

Yesterday morning he was sluggish but ate his breakfast. Monday night, however, my wife came home and had to look for him. He was in the cat tower just hanging out, and he wouldn't touch his dinner.

We took him to the emergency vet and they did a physical exam and did blood work. The physical exam yielded nothing wrong, as the vet was able to also apply pressure to his abdomen without causing him pain or discomfort. Blood work came back normal except for dehydration. The vet even said we have a very healthy cat.

He stayed overnight to get hydrated via IV. While there he urinated, but didn't puke or pass stool. We picked him up this morning and were told to slowly get him back on his food, and to feed him every 4 hours. He ate well this morning, all excited like normal. He ate his midday meal just fine, all excited like normal. And the same thing with the subsequent two meals. He passed stool today, but it was just a little (likely due to his small food intake) and it was runny.

OK, here's my problem: We're doing what the vet suggested and it's only been 12 hours since he's been home, but I'm over here stressing, worrying what if? he ate something and it's causing an obstruction (despite not showing any major symptoms)? What if? this and that?

I'm just looking for helpful advice or kind words or something, because I'm stressing my wife out from stressing so much, haha. We've had recent issues with our home that we've dodged bullets on (electrical and plumbing), so I think I feel this third thing (cat health) is the last big hurdle. But what if?

I don't usually get stressed about anything, yet here I am. So, thanks for your help.

Ugh, sorry for the quote of my OP, I meant to explain it. I added some info, and meant to say as much before I replied. I can't see a way to edit my posts. My apologies.

If food is staying down and he is passing some stool then he there isn't a blockage.  He may be a little constipated, loose stool can pass around the constipation.  As long as he continues to eat  well I would just watch him as far as the litter box goes.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately when I just now let the dogs out to potty, I noticed Ki had vomited up seemingly all the food he's eaten all day. I'm going to call the vet and see what she recommends.

He could have some kind of blockage then.  Food staying down for a period of time and then being vomited does happen with a blockage.

Spent an hour with the primary vet and her technician, and they both examined him very well. No fever, still no issues from blood work, and no sign of blockage. They gave him a shot for nausea control, and they sent us home with some Laxatone to give him three times a day. We were also told to isolate him with a fresh litter box so we can be sure he's passing stool.

Now that three vvets have said they don't believe he's got an obstruction, I'm feeling better. I just want my Ki cat to get better and back to his annoying self.

So sorry your kitty is under the weather.  He could just have a tummy virus/bug.  Just keep an eye on him over the next few days and make sure he's pooping.  Hope he gets feeling better.

Thanks for your kind words and well-wishes.

My wife returned home from work and said he hasn't had a bowel movement yet, but he's only eaten a little bit today and just began the Laxatone doses so maybe it'll take a couple of days. I wish I knew how often he had bowel movements, so I could be more sure of his routine (once a day, every other day, etc.)

Bowl movements should relate directly to the amount eaten, so if he barely eats expect a small daily movement or even an every other day movement. Sounds like your doing everything you can, keep us posted

Thanks for your reply. Ki is mow acting rather withdrawn today, though. He's not accepting food at the moment but he has drank some water and has urinated in his litter box. I'm hoping he perks up tomorrow and eats something, then poops.

I'm trying to relate everything to how humans work with regard to upset stomachs, constipation and the like. I imagine if I didn't feel too hot I wouldn't want food, and would just want to rest. I just wish he could tell me what's wrong.

In any case, thanks everyone. All the help and well wishes are greatly appreciated.

Another update:

Ki refused to take his food last night, so we called the emergency vet and she told us to mix Pedialyte (unflavored) with water and feed him with a dropper, which worked. He ate very little this morning, but was acting hungry.

Earlier today the vet told us we could dilute his food with water or tuna water/juice and warm it up, as to entice him. The water mixture and heating up didn't work, but when I began cracking open a tuna can he got excited and began meowing and grew impatient with me. I set the can down and he practically attacked it. I didn't let him eat all of it so it wouldn't hurt his tummy. I also tried mixing some with the Laxatone, but he ignored it after that.

So, it dawned on me: He dislikes the Laxatone.

We just got off the phone with the vet and they said we can continue feeding him tuna, and to mix it with the prescription food they sent home with him. The Laxatone will now be smeared on his lips so he's forced to consume it, and so far that's working.

I hope this is the beginning of Ki's turnaround. I miss him always getting in my way and being ornery.

Just wanted to update everyone again.

First, thanks for the kind words of encouragement. We really appreciate it.

Ki began eating with more desire a couple of days ago, and since then has improved a great deal. He's more active and is super eager to eat, just like he was before his illness. He finally had a bowel movement yesterday morning, and I never knew I would be so happy to see cat poop, haha.

He finished his prescription food today so back to his regular wet food tomorrow. We'll see if he accepts it, or if he'll reject it because he connects it to himself not feeling well.

When my wife got home today Ki was looking out the front window, as normal, and greeted her at the door, as normal.

We're feeling a lot better now that our friend is feeling a lot better. We were praying every night he'd get well soon, and he seems to be making a full recovery :)

Thanks again, everyone.

Great news!

Did he have any fever when he was at the vets? Did he get any med?

It may have very well just been a passing virus, but they aren't usually associated with so much vomiting.

I'd keep my eye on him for a while.

Was any bloodwork done?

Hey there!

Blood work was done and came back looking great except for him being dehydrated. He also had no fever. The only meds they gave him was a shot for nausea, some gastrointestinal food and Laxatone.

We will definitely keep our eye on him.
